I had my '08 base for almost a year now. One thing that annoyes the hell out of me, is that gears 4 through 6 are geared in such a way that it jerks when I upshift.

When upshifting, normally the revs would drop down. However,it seems to be dropping down too far. I would shift from 3 to 4 and when 4th gets engaged, the revs would jump up like 500 rpm. This sudden engine speed jump to match the revs of the next higher gear, causes the car to jerk. This is mostly noticeable when shifting slowly or in moderate fashion. (This is less noticeable when upshifting real fast.)

Am I the only one, who notices this?

 

Probably. Never had an issue in higher gears what-so-ever. What RPM(s) you shift at?

 

Coming from a Scion tC I actually think the Z is very easy to drive smoothly.
You just have to be aware that the gear ratios are closer from 4 to 6.
It's designed for optimal acceleration at higher speeds.
Just shift a bit quicker than you would 1-2-3.

yes. 1-2 just needs a little more concentration on the clutch to get smooth. 2-3-4-5-6 is piece of cake.

what are your rpms when you shift?
initial rpm's may be too low. check your manual on optimal shifting points for a particular speed, also, you may be on the clutch too long and the revs drop too much.

 

Its very sensitive. Its funny watching someone drive it for the first time they either stall it or buck it. Got an inspection last week the mechanic stalled the car 5x

 

That does make alot of sense. Having the gear ratios closer equates to better acceleration. I noticed that shifting 4 to 6 quickly allows for smoother shifts.

 

+1 IMO , and there are 2 big causes of this, 1 big motor with semi high compression, 2 heavy flywheel.
