Default How in the world do I read the ATF dispstick?

There's 2 notches above the text "Hot", and then above that there's a section with grooves. Where is the ATF level supposed to be when the engine is hot? My ATF level is currently at the upper notch.

Why do they make it so damn difficult to interpret?

When your transmission fluid gets up to operating temperatures it expands just like you radiator fluid, When you fluid cools off it contracts. So in your transmission is all warmed up read the upper marks on your ATF dipstick, If you haven't ran the car at all then you read the lower dipstick marks

Maybe they bolted it closed so YOU wouldn't look at it.

BTW - the notches are the Cold range. The crosshatched area on the face of the stick is the Hot range.

I bought the auto enginuity data cable too as it was the only thing that could read out my AT TEMP 1 sensor for under $1000, couldn't recommend it more! I live in phoenix though and like to keep a monitor on my temps, heat is a killer. Make sure if you change it to replace the SAME AMOUNT volumetrically. I get 3.5 to 4 quarts on a drain and fill.

This will show you a good procedure too: http://www.infinitihelp.com/diy/gsed...on_service.htm
