We ran the 12 hours of the cascades in Portland Oregon this weekend in our 350 Z. The car has been fully developed with the exception of the engine and the transmission. As it turned out we blew two transmissions over the weekend. We limped in without 5th and 6th gear. Any ideas on how to improve the tranny? Are there any aftermarket transmissions out there that are reasonably priced?

If you were abusing the stock tranny for hours on end without a cooler, then i would guess that it was a heat issue.
Running a car a car for hours isn't quite the same as a track day or time attack event.
I would suggest you get a 009 gearbox and fit it with a cooler kit (which you will have to custom make) and see how it goes from there. If you still have problems after that, then maybe that sequential box is the way to go.

That's the rating they expect it to last indefinitely, in a very abusive racing condition shifting 20+ times a lap.
The stock gearbox couldn't handle that.
What gear oil were you using? I'm surprised you're blowing stock gearboxes - or maybe I've just had good luck. I've been using the same bone stock OE gearbox for 2 seasons now with 4 - 3hr enduro's and not once had an issue.
We use MT90 with 30% lightweight shockproof. Give it a try.
Drill the housing for a temp sensor and monitor the temps and if you're steady above 130 degrees C you'll need a custom cooler. Pickup off the drain plug, fill through the fill plug. Use a mocal or tilton diff oil pump and mount a setrab core in the back and you're done!

We just got back from the race and have not torn open the transmission yet. I suspect we will rebuild one and then install a temp sensor as was suggested. I suspect we will end up installing a cooler. Thanks for the the feedback....
