Hey do you want a shorter final drive for your 5 speed or 6 speed 350z/G35?
I contacted ATS and told/asked them the following.
Is ATS going to have a shorter final drive available for
350Z/G35 Coupes/Sedans? That is a huge market ! Im pretty sure over 50,000 G35 Coupes and 350Z's have been sold in the past year and couple months alone. The G35 Coupes, Sedans, and 350Z's all have the same exact gear ratios and final drive.
The 5 speed Automatic 350Z/G35 has a Final Drive of 3.37:1 The6 speeds have a final drive of 3.54:1 i believe.
> Im sure alot of people wouldnt mind taller OD gears since there is alot of complaing about MPG with the G35 and 350Z.
> If you can help out a huge community of RWD VQ35DE's that would be awsomme.
>
> If you guys decide to go through with this. I will make sure
everyone on 350Z/G35 forums find out.
>
> There are over 18,000 members on my350z.com alone.

Answer from ATS:
Thank you very much for your comment.
I will relate the message to ATS Japan. However it is very unlikely for
us to make a taller fianl gear. We might consider a shorter gear if
there are enough demand there.
Please note we always appreciate any comment regarding the customers
needs. Thanks.
Best regards,
Yasu / ATS USA
So guys all itll take is 30 seconds of your time to e mail these guys and let them know your interested.

We have started looking into this as well - hopefully we'll find some method of offering different ring and pinions for these cars. Given that the rear end is fairly common, I see no reason why we shouldnot be able to get it sqaured away in time.
We already computed this... we were considering a 4.1 for nice short gears.
We'd lose time 0-60, and while picking up AT MOST .1 in the 1/4 we'd lose a few mph.
Running similar calculations around simulated tracks, the stock gearing was superior.
In conclusion, Nissan did a GREAT job picking out our gearing. I could see TALLER gears, i.e. 3.20s etc for FI applications. Though shorter???? NO WAY!

Yeah I have always put shorter gears in my domestics but for whatever reason I have been thinking I would rather go taller in the Z. Gas mileage would improve, yes, but I would not do it for that reason. I have been getting over 27 and sometimes 28 MPG on road trips. With the power plans I have, taller gears would only make sense as I would hate to rev out too early. Plus, you will probably improve your 0-60 times because you will have to shift one less time.
I think that you can get 59 in second and to really hit 60 you have to shift to third. That kills time. I could be wrong but I thought I have seen posts regarding this. I haven't actually measured this myself. I think there is more use and will be a bigger market (with some education) for taller gearing.

If not, who cares? Say it's stronger to 55 (when both are in second) and to 65 (when both are in third), and feels stronger throughout the powerband. Would you really settle for the one w/ the better magazine spec?
Well, it won't be stronger on any acceleration really. That is why I did not word it how you did. Your wording is false. And yes actually, most of the full throttle street races are something like 0-60 or 60-? . So there.

LOL, I would like taller gearing also. On the interstate, we do have some nice pep, but I still think 3000 rpms at 80 mph is too much. I would much rather see it at like 2500 rpms at 80. I have good mpg right now, but it could always be better.
I'm looking for killer acceleration, shorter R&P please
Although first gear is pretty darn short and going with a shorter gear will make it even that much more quicker to jump through. Ultimately I think the whole tranny needs some taller gears say between 1-3rd, and shorter gears between 4-6th. I'm trying to scavange a 4.083 off of a R200V from a late 90's 240SX. Still looking...

Shorter, not taller, gearing will provide better acceleration throughout the powerband. So there.
