Find a different dealer.

What year car?
Assuming it's a 6 speed?

I would think with consult in hand this should not be very hard to figure out since it does it all the time....

It is a shieled wire from the knock sensor. Probably easier to ohm check it than just replace it. Are you getting a knock sensor code?

It doesn't split. One wire has a shielded wire that wraps around the cased inner wire, The outer part is a grounded wire which is grounded at both ends and protects the inner wire from electrical interference so the knock signal does not get changed on it's way to the PCM.

Did you check for plenum leak in gasket? If it is making power till 4k then maybe you have a vacuum leak... What does it sound like when it cuts off? When does it cut off during acceleration or after letting up on the throttle/nuetral?
