Default UR Pulleys: is it OK to use 3/8" longer belt than specified?

I tried AutoZone and O'Reilly's Autoparts but none have the A/C Belt I need. Both had a 3/8" longer belt.

Will this work?

It should be fine as long as the tension is correct right?

I need a response ASAP, cause I'm about to put them on.

Thanks,
Victor

To get the crank bolt off simply, hold your wrench on the bolt, and have somebody crank the car, but not turn it all the way over. It'll pop loose like magic and with a rack, u should be able to do it within about 45 mins for all of them. Have fun.

your kidding right!!!! Soundsdangerous to me. How about if he puts the car in 6th gear(whlie its off) and uses a breaker bar. That worked for me. Starting the car is just not safe to me!!

Negative. Just don't turn the engine all the way over. The 5 mechanics at the dealership where my bro works, and 3 mechanics i know who tune & have been doing this stuff for a long time said it's one of the #1 tricks. Dunno, I guess the 9 mechanics don't konw what they are talking about tho?! Especially since my pulleys got done in 45 mins, whereas almost everybody else is taking 2 to 6 hrs.

All I have to say is what happens if you turn the key and the bolt doesn't break loose. Bang there goes your fingures, hand and what ever else breaks on your body. I would rather have it take two hours then hurt myself. It also only took me 45min-1hr to install. So yes I would say your nine machanics are wrong. By the way here is a link to the install from UR racing themself.

SteaminRice:

I just wanted to clear something up. I am not saying it won't work, just very unsafe. Be careful man, don't do something because someone told you, follow the directions its your best bet.

WHOA!

First, do NOT use a longer AC belt. The one that is recommended will work, but it requires that the tensioner be extended all the way. If the belt loosens with time, you will not have enough tensioner room left to tighten it. If anything, use a shorter belt. I used a shorter belt and with the tension cranked down to spec, the tensioner pulley was in the middle of its total travel. This wll allow me to tighten it or loosen it if anything changes. A longer belt would be problematic at the least.

As for cranking the engine to loosen the belt, I would highly recommend against this. Hell, it might work, but it would be dangerous. The bolt is easy enough to get off using the regualr method and an 18-inch breaker bar. Just go the safe route.

Mike, if you have questions for someone who has done this install, just shoot me a PM.

that is the most dangerous thing I have heard of for an install - its not a hard bolt to get off at all. Put the car in a high gear, and just use a breaker bar, it will come right off for you.

peptibond - yours was all the way extended? We used the recommended size on an install here, and still had some room on the tenisoner - just goes to show each car can be a bit different sometimes!

Best bet Victor is maybe get a size smaller and larger than recommended, then return the one you don't use...this way you don't get stuck!

Don't know if you have one but I bought mine at Hi-Lo Autoparts. I think it was 37 bucks for both. Any autoparts should have them though. Good luck on your install.
