oil pressure problem...
My pressure is at constant 110 psi. and with just a light tap on the gas peday, it goes above 120 (which is mas)
i did a search and it says its because of the oil pressure sensor. is this true?
is the car okay to drive when the gauge is reading 110psi?
does the car behave differently with 110 psi reading?
i just did the P1 service yesterday and everything looked okay (but thats before my sensor decided to fail on me)

That's weird...
I noticed after an oil + filter change that my oil psi was higher than normal. I changed from Mobil 10W30 Regular to Mobil 5W30 Synthetic using the oem nissan filter. At cold start the PSI is 120 and gradually drops down as the car warms up as normal. However, once the car is warmed up. In neutral, when I rev, it goes up to 120 with a quick blip. While driving through the first 4 gears never exceeding 4k RPMS the PSI goes up to 120, sometimes even exceeding the 120.
Nissan changed the Oil Pressure sensor today and it's still doing it. They said it's normal operation, however I don't seem to agree with that and will be connecting a direct reading gauge tomorrow to see what it's really reading. If it really is in fact that high, not sure what I'll do from there.

i changed my oil today, and got the exact same result. same oil also

Btw - forgot to update.
We ended up hooking up a direct reading gauge to where the Oil Pressure Sensor connects into. We did infact get the same readings on the direct reading gauge that the gauge in the car would get from the sensor being connected. So the car was infact putting out 120 PSI. Just kinda gave up on trying to see what was wrong with it and just went along with the idea that the car is suppose to run that high. The weather was about 75-80 degrees that day as well.

So, you unscrewed and removed the sensor from the engine, put in a mechanical pressure gauge, and it reads 120 psi? At idle, or at some speed above idle? At what temperature?
My nearly new '08 jumps to about 110psi when the engine starts in freezing weather because it's running at nearly 2000rpm. As soon as the oil warms up, the pressure is about 65psi at 2000rpm and drops to around 35 at idle. That's about the same as it was during warmer weather when the car was new.

At Idle the pressures were normal and low and didn't go up at the 110+ range until we gave it quick blips w/ the throttle ranging up to 4k+ RPM. These temps were all done with the car warmed up and the ambient temp being around 75-80 degrees.
In my 08 the idle pressure isn't my concern, it was under a hard load reaching 120+ that concerned us. But now I pretty much ignore it.

Yea, all those readings were based on the car being warmed up internally. Idle pressure was all correct and normal and didn't seem to be abnormal until we brought the RPM's up to around 4k+. Keep in mind that these were all done with the car at operating temperature and the ambient temperature being at 75-80 degrees.
Still seems kind of high but if a secondary gauge read the same thing I suppose I wouldn't worry about it?!
I know in those temps around here my 05 on a relatively fresh oil change won't get above 80-90 even under full throttle. Hmm... well at least you took the right precautions and checked the proper way.

hey, try turning your key to turn your accessories on but dont start the car. does your gauge read that its at 0 or 70? if it reads that its at 70 before you start it then its the sensor. I am having this exact same problem with my 04
My '04 constantly reads above 120; like, tached out. It does drop with the battery needle when the ignition is turned off.
So, if it's the sensor, where is that sensor located? Thanks for any help.

This issue also cropped up for me this weekend. I blew a stock motor last year...so when I saw the oil pressure pegged up above 120 psi I immediately drove home and parked it. When I turn the key from off to acc (w/out turning on the engine) it goes up above 120 psi right away. The engine is full of oil so I hope it's only a sensor, can the VQ even handle that much oil pressure? Also, my turbo's heat up very fast now....wonder if that's due to this sensor going out.
I'm a little scared.
I'm a little scared.
Edit: Yeah its probably the stupid sensor went out, hopefully changing it will fix it
