Default 06 oil problem?

i just check my oil today, and was missing half a quart of oil. i changed my oil about 2k ago. Should i go to the dealer and have them do a oil consumption test on my car? Is my car still protected from the factory warranty?

-i have 33,000 miles on my car

It's not covered if you only have the 30Kmile warranty.

many 06 350s have an oil problem..i have and i got it checked out but its up to par.

In your case, all 2006 nissan 350z have a lifetime warenty on their engines due to this problem...so if thats the case, u might want it to get looked at

If you are the original owner, then it looks like the 3 year part of your warranty is due to expire, unless you're going to put 3K miles on it in the next month. I don't know about the lifetime warranty on the '06 engines, except maybe in the case that it is cosuming oil abnormally. I had to replace the MAF sensor, and I was past my warranty, so I had to pony up the cash for it. So the whole engine isn't under lifetime warranty (if it truly is, I got screwed). Either way, you can request an oil consumption test by the dealer. I'm not sure of the requirements in quarts per mile, but there is a Nissan Technical Bulletin (NTB07-088) that explains everything you and the dealer need to know about executing the oil consumption test. It comes down to how much oil (in mm) is left on the dipstick after x amount of miles. Yes, there is a chart. I have a copy of it if you are interested. PM me your email address if you want it. I hope this helps, and good luck.

I'm pretty sure it would cover it even after warranty for abnormal oil consumption. Maybe someone who has been through the process after mfg warranty could chime in. There is a sticky at the top of this sub-forum dedicated to oil consumption in '06 models. Or click this https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...iscussion.html

A lot of good info in this thread. I think the NTB is in there as well.

yea i read alot about it, but i wanted to ask a more direct question.. i went to a nissan dealership today and showed them the TSB about my the 06 oil problem, which they werent aware of. They check my oil, which was full because i add some the other day and recorded the mileage. They told me i had to go back in 1,000 miles to recheck my oil. They were very willing to do the oil consumption test and did not mention anything about my warranty. I also have modified parts, but they said as long as the aftermarket parts dont affect the oil problem then i should be good. So it looks like im off to a good start.

A friend of mine had his motor replaced because of the oil consumption issue. He had testpipes, catback, and a popcharger so you should be fine in that regard. Also, I don't see how this would not be covered under the powertrain warranty. You should have no problem getting it replaced if it is consuming the amount of oil stated in the TSB. I remember them saying something about it having to be about 16mm down on the dipstick.

Drivetrain? or Powertrain? whatever, the engine is covered for 5yr 60k miles. Go get your oil consumption test done. Be prepared to pay for an oil change.

Good luck.

haha i was thinking the same thing POWUH.. I heard that you should shift around 4-5k to burn more oil im not sure if that is true or not, but ill try anything to get a new engine. I was going to check my drain plug to see if there is any markings, cuz i wanted to drain some out.

i just rechecked my oil today, and it seems like they put a quart of a quart of oil in my car when they said they were just going to "Check my oil level".. When people do a oil change they usually put a dye on the drain plug so they will know if anyone tried to loosen in, but i work in a automotive shop so i have that same dye, but just have to see if they are using the same color. I believe that is the only way of knowing if anyone loosen the plug? correct me if im wrong

I think I remember reading somewhere that they put some sort of seal on the drain plug so that the car owner can't tamper with the test by draining some oil out. Supposedly, early on in the issue with the oil consumption, Nissan claimed that downshifting was the cause of the oil consumption. Couldn't hurt to do it now and again if you really want the new engine. But, at the same time, you don't want to put that extra wear on it and not get the new one.

Incorrect.
Revups were affected (05 and 06 6-speed cars)
Of those cars, there are many people that do not have a problem.

i got about 700 miles til i go back to the dealer n have them check the level. hopefuly i burned about half a quart of oil. i did check the drain plug and they did put a sealer around the plug, so i cant tamper with it.

If i do get my engine replace, do they instal a new verison of the rev-up motor?
