I believe that the JWT cams will make the most power.. They just have to come out first.

Just to point out, the Nismo cams are made by JWT. JWT is also coming out with 2 other series of cams I believe. Those will be marketed and sold through JWT.

Crane is scheduled to release a series of cams in early 2004. They claimed when I spoke to them last they would retail for around $800 for a set of 4. Personally, I would hold off on getting an item like this for at least another year and allow the market to grow as more vendors come out with their products. There is simply too much work involded in something like this to be swapping them everytime a new vendor shows a few HP gain over a competitor.

Your question is a little too broad. The best cams for you depend on a few things. Do you want to maintain low end power? What are you going to be doing with your car--drag racing or autox? Different cams will do different things--you just need to find the ones that do what you want the best.

But I do agree with what was said above. If you're not sure yet, wait to see what the market will bring. SO many companies haven't released their stuff yet, so more options are coming and more than likely in a big way.

November Road & Track has a mini comparison of aftermarket tuner 350Z's. The one with the JWT cams, intake and light weight flywheel (stock exhaust) was the fastest 0-60. It beat the Stillen supercharger and the Greddy TT.

That cammed 350z should have ran faster I bet it was not tuned yet with a aggressive set of cams, intake headers, hi-flow cats and exhaust, I bet the 350z will see about 330rwhp and run a 12.7

Yep, the NA car beat the Stillen by 1/10 of a second if I recall correctly. To me, the FI car has got to out perform the NA car or what is the advantage, surely not dependability.

JWT is coming out with another cam. I believe a protype is being installed in a Z as we chat. I am interested to see how it will perform differently than the JWT cam made for NISMO.

My SS LS1 which is totalled rated at stock was at 330 hp and 345lbs but on a dyno it was soo underrated and put down 301rwhp and 315rwlbs or torque stock
Now
My Ls1 SS which the LS1 has only one cam, with a really aggressive cam, intake, headers and exhaust.

Put down on a dyno 402rwhp and 398rwlbs of torque.

I hope a cammed 350Z will do something close!

I know that JWT is working on an ECU and is testing a prototype cam that is different than the one they do for NISMO. They might be offering what you are looking for in the very near future.

I suggest you contact Greg Vogel at Mossy in Oceanside. He is in contact with them weekly, seems to be involved in some protype testing, and might be able to give you some infomation on this.

Sorry to ask this, but I don't know very much about cams and was wondering what would be an estimated average gain in HP for a Z, for say the Nimso cams and other more aggressive cams?

Nismo cams 15rwhp

Very aggresive Cams 50 - 55rwhp
When you do cams you may wanna get better heads or have the heads ported, both Ported heads and aggressive cams about 80 -100rwhp

Check out what a single cam does for the LS1( they only have one cam)

with this VQ engine there are 4 hopefully we will see better results.

Woah dude! We will NOT see the gains of the LS1 I will say that right now. The LS1 heads flow WAY more than the stock cams/headers flow. That is why they see such huge gains when going bigger on cams and headers. That is not and has never been typical of these two mods. The LS1 is an extraordinary circumstance. Don't be dissapointed when aggressive cams, port job and headers yield about 50 HP at the most. Also, the LS1 has two extra cylinders to breathe with as well. That is a 33% advantage a V8 has over a V6 when modding along with oversized stock head ports on the LS1. If our ports are anything near matched to the stock cams/manifolds, we will not see gains near there. Sorry. But 40 or 50 HP is nothing to shake a stick at of course. That's pretty good.

I doubt we will even see 40-50rwhp. Maybe 25-30 tops and that would be with cams that don't even hold an idle I bet.
