So I was on my way to work this morning and was hitting the on-ramp when I started to hear a knocking noise coming from under the hood. I've never heard this noise before and its pretty loud. The noise goes away when the car is in neutral or whenever the clutch is engaged, but comes back after I start driving again...any suggestions before I take it in to have it checked out??? I have an 08 nismo w/ about 11k miles on it.

all stock btw..and no its not the normal whine of the clutch when its disengaged..i've never heard this clanking noise before.

Gotta love that warranty! But it would be nice to know a little something about the problem before I talk to someone at the dealership that might not have a clue..

 

We need to hear it to be of any help. Can you make a video?

 

in for vid. is it a "hollow" type of a sound? (if that makes sense)

 

Unfortunately I can't right now...I'm at work and am taking the car in as soon as I get off so I'm not driving it in case the problem is serious.

But this might help give a little more detail on the sound...say I'm at a dead stop at a red light with the car in neutral. There is no knocking sound. When I start to accelerate and get the car around 2k rpms, the noise comes alive.

I heard the noise the entire way to work, except for when the clutch was pressed in during shifting or when I was sitting in neutral. It is very loud, I could hear it over my music when it started doing it on the on-ramp.

 

Problem solved! There was debris in the heater core.
