Had a boo-boo

Had a boo-boo
Ok, so I made the mistake of trying to jack up my car from the cross member, and had the jack slip to where it fell on the oil pan. So I removed the oil pan to make sure I didn't **** up the oil pickup, so after inspecting it, the oil pickup seems fine, but the metal around the screen got bent up pretty bad. I was thinking of taking some tin snips and cut the metal part off to expose the screen some more. My question is has anybody done this? I really don't see any cons in doing this, but I just want to double check here to see if anybody has done it before. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
Here's a pic of the metal part I am talking about.

I'd swap it out. If I remember, its only five more bolts before it comes out so its not time consuming. The reason I say swap it is, it hard to tell if it is at the exact level it should be at. If it was bent in the upper area and lost a half inch of distance in to the pan you could run low and damage something before the sensor catches a problem. And its only $20.

and
Whos to know if that pick up shield is meant to have the opening "sized" it has for pressure on pick up....
Example - laymens terms:
if a vacumme cleaner has a narrow end for picking up junk in the corners of base boards the suction pressure is different than if it has the wide mount opening attachment......ie, cutting the tin bigger...
Does anyone know if that section retains the mess screen in place??? if something pops out ladder you will have FOD (foreign object that will cause damage).
