Default Howling noise from CD009 transmission

I just installed a used cd009 transmission from an 06 350z because my 03 trans was grinding third. My car is an 03. I had recently a few months back put in a new exedy clutch and act lightweight flywheel. When the 03 trans was in the car I did not hear any low speed howling, but I noticed a low speed howling noise coming from the cd009. It kind of sounds like gear whine but it is noticeably in 1st, 2nd, and third gear until the clutch is pressed in. I used the Nissan trans fluid that is calls for. It does seem like it is quieter once the car warms up. Any ideas or suggestions. Should I change any fluids?

that tranny might of have had issues maby before you installed it ...... check the fluid level it might be low or drop the fluid and see if there is metal shavings or and junk that should no be in there

The transmission is excessively cold. It's normal. It should go away within a few miles each time you start driving.

I will check the fluid level but I filled it up until it started pouring out the fill hole then I let it drip and then put the 10mm fill plug back in. I would dump all the fluid but besides from the howling the thing shifts like a champ. I heard some stories about a front bearing in the trans that might go bad on these trannys.

I don't disagree with it being excessively cold because the car sits in the garage and is driven once a week. But I just drove it around for about 25 minutes and it was still making the howling noise. I noticed it more in third and fourth gear when i come off the gas and I am coasting in gear. When I push in the clutch there is no noise.

I had my old 03 trans in the car a few weeks ago and it never made any type of howling noises. Although it did just about everytime grind third gear, which is the reason that I swapped it out.

My CD009 is pretty dam loud compaired to the stock tranny in my 03 , its normal , i also liked the way ther old trans shifted. The only thing better about the 009 is it doesn't grind.

Thanks for your input. Maybe the noise is normal for this trans.

well when you put the transmission in it was from a used car? how many miles where put on the transmission? because what i was going to originally say is that if it was brand new then after 500-1000 miles put on a new transmission you should change out the fluid but thats not the case with your situation because its a used transmission. I agree with the noise being normal. Sounds cool to me. lol

does it make the noise in neutral with clutch depressed? if so then it is your input shaft bearing... normal. the input shaft bearings are loud when attached to light weight flywheel... dual mass fly wheel was originaly designed to muffle transmission noise

i had the howling noise on my original transmission 04 g35. the dealership warranted it to be changed. they swapped it under warranty. i have the cd009 without the howling noise.

I thought it might be this as well. I did notice the noise goes completly away when outside temps are above 60 degrees. It must be some thin oil that nissan uses.

The tranny was out of an 06 used with 30k miles.

i have a 03 and swaped out the transmission too with the 06 cd009 transmission... and when i press the clutch down in 1st and 2nd, and only when i press the clutch in it makes that howling noise? ... my guest either the rear diff, not enough transmission oil, or input shaft? But i i put the car on the LIFT not jacks and fill it up till i over flow and stoped over flowing... so i know it's not my oil.. and my 03 didn't make that noise but it grind like my pitt bull on a t-bone... don't mean to jack your thread but i too have the same problem.. is that just the transmission?
