Default VLSD Conversion

I'm really wanting to convert to the vlsd. Now I looked into the cusco, quaife, and nismo but I know they are unnecessary for my driving style. In my research I found fontana nissan's website along with parts needed for the conversion. My dilemma is on the link provided they specify viscous coupler and also the full differential case. Which do I order because there is a price difference of about $500? Also their illustrations are very identical. I pm'd Scott at Fontana he was very helpful until this point. If I need to order the full differential case then I will just snag a Nismo unit from a vendor.

Look for some used ones. I bought a low mileage complete open diff for $375 shipped to my door. A Vlsd unit is about $150 more. If you are dead set on a new one this might be the part number 384202C500

Just get a real LSD, the VLSD is actually very close to being considered a joke.

Nah not if a vlsd is only $550 and my driving style doesn't exceed it's limit then there is no point for an lsd.

I'm not understanding what your driving style is then. If wheel slip is never an issue, the open LSD works just fine. The VLSD barely does anything at all even when brand new. After just 7000 miles I went from the VLSD to Quaife and would never look back. The VLSD will not help you in bad weather, and it certainly isn't very helpful on a track. It's a great concept that was not pulled off particularly well by Nissan. If you have an opportunity to drive a Z with a VLSD please do before you dump $500+ on it.

I've driven my wife's G35 and there is no peg leg launch with the vlsd that I noticed. Whereas my Z when on the launch spins a tire and I may be wrong but believe my 60's are effected.

Also my driving style consits of moderate track visits and alot of spirited driving, also some dd (sort of the reason I do not want a real lsd, too much chatter), and soon to include legal highspeed highway events.

Sounds like a reason to get a better LSD

I know it is not cheaper than a VLSD, but a Quaife is a gear driven mechanical LDS designed specifically for the base (no axel stubs to buy) is super smooth and quiet. No radical maintenance, no clutch to burn or change.
I have one with a 3.9fd best mod I have done.
