Jeff,

Sorry to bring up this old post, but I thought it would be useful to have this answered for anyone else that might run into this.

I just had the Nismo LSD installed in my G35 Sedan and they left it at the factory setting of 80%. It's a bit harsh on the slow turns (especially getting out of my driveway) and I also want to get mine down to 60%. From what I understand, the original instructions are in Japanese and I believe Jason is working on getting an answer on how to make the adjustment. If you guys could coordinate to get the answer posted here, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Don

Hey don

I was under the impression that Jeff had Rocky (one of the mechanics there at Perf nissan) adjust his back to 60% or 70%. I am prettysure that Jeff's not running at 80% and he reported a lot of imrovement at 60%.

Thanks Gurgen,

I had read that post from Jeff as well which is why I posed the question to him.

Jason and Jeff are looking to have this answered for us soon.
Thanks

Yes, 60% should be considered the norm.

All depends what you are using the car for....for street, yes, 60% is best, for track use (especially longer tracks with higher speeds), for high speed use, 80% or more is ideal.

Adam, have you or any of your guys done this adjustment. On the Japanese Nismo site I was able to see and roughly translate the method by which this is done, however, there are a few missing details.

It looks like it comes from the factory at the medium setting (which I think is 80% lockup). Basically, it looks like you can lift the car, remove the right axle flange and go in with some kind of socket for the adjustment (to either high-100% or low-60%.

First unknown factor is whether it's a regular socket or a special tool.

Another unknown is the direction to turn it and how much. If we can figure this out, we're all set. Anyone have a spare manual around? Mine has gone missing.

Anyone using the 60 percent setting with VDC? I don't track my Z often, but I'd love this upgrade. I just don't want to be forced to turn VDC off every time I'm driving around town.

Sorry for the delay. Rocky has been off and won't be back until Tuesday. No one at Nissan/Motorsports seems to be able to answer this for me. If anyone else know please answer!!

I cannot fathom how on earth its adjustable without disassembling the diff......I have done it on the Cusco's before, but not on the NISMO, as we have yet to use it

OK guys, here's the scoop thanks to my new best friend Ed from FreshAlloy.com.

Like I said before, you can lift the car, remove the right axle flange and go in with some kind of socket for the adjustment (to either high-100% or low-60%. Now I figured this out by half-*** translating this page (Nismo LSD ) but mostly from the image on this page. See below:

Now here are the specifics from Ed which he got from the Nismo LSD manual (mine mysteriously disappeared by the way):

"The initial torque reference values are as follows:
Low: 50.6 ftlbs
Mid: 68.7
High: 101.0

It uses a 19mm box wrench.
Max force is 72ftlb to the box wrench when adjusting, or it may damage the unit. And you are not to go beyond the high or low settings. Caution note against damaging the oil seal with the serration part of the shaft. You turn the box wrench 90 degrees clockwise to set it from mid to high, and you turn it 90 degrees counterclockwise to set it to low from mid"

Thanks to everyone that helped here and I hope this helps those that choose this awesome mod.

Don

Here's the diagram straight from the manual. Keep in mind that it looks like the translation is poor, but the general idea gets across.

The factory driveshaft in the 350Z is made of Carbon Fiber and VERY light. When I put my JWT clutch/flywheel in and obviously had the driveshaft out of the car I was VERY suprised at just how light it was. I'd estimate that it weighs around 15 lbs.

oh...lucky Z guys. Wonder if it's a direct swap with the G35, my guess it should be.
So what other suspension components are different besides the drive shaft? Don't the transmissions in the Z's have closer ratio?

no direct swap...wheelbase on the G35s is longer so their driveshaft is longer...same exact trasmissions though....
