Default Does anyone know anything about Home Dyno Kits?

I found this one online. It looks like a very easy way to get dynos at home without having to pay every single time you went. Does anyone know if it would be somewhat accurate? Also, where is the OBD scanner on the Z?

I have not used one before, but I am sure it estimates HP and TQ from the readings it gets from the cars computer. Similar to the way a G-tech estimates it from the readings it gets from it's built in accelerometer. The esimates taken from the cars computer will probably not be as accurate as a G-Tech. Neither will be as accurate as a traditional dyno of course.

Maybe some of the guys that have a G-Tech and have done a traditional dyno can give some input, as to the accuracy of these devices...

Should be very accurate, better than G-tech. The problem is it wont work with the 350. Which uses the CAN protocol.

Looks just like

Does the G Timer calculate HP and TQ just like the PDA kits? If so, how off are they to the conventional dynos? I really wish i could just use on of those PDA kits. Looks very nifty

Default won't work?

Are you sure it won't work, as I have hooked my OBD-II scanner up to my G35 04' Sedan, and use it all the time with no problems. It hooks into the OBD-II port not the port for the consult. I think it just might work.

I hear that the G-Timer is pretty accurate and well worth the price. I am considering it. I don't really need it but it looks like a nice piece of gadgetry. The new G-tech is supposed to be even better but the box is a bit bigger than the cool little G-Timer.

If you read Nology's page, they say it wont work, so Im just assuming this other tool is the same thing. Id love for it to work, as I asked about this a long time ago on this board.

Just read that after you directed it to me. I guess since I called out, I'll be the one to give the two companies a shout and see what the deal is. I'll keep you posted:-)

Default Ummm, Crow sure tastes funny

Well, 0 for 1 so far this morning. i contacted Nology about their PDA dyno. had a very interesting conversation with Jeff there. He said they have tested it on a 350z and it DID NOT work. I found this strange as my other OBD-II software tool does work with my 2004 G35. And it uses CAN and ISO just like the Z. Also, according to the FSM for the Z and the G, they both should work with Generic OBD-II scan tools. I am going to post in some other forums and try and find a G35 owner who would be willing to stop by their shop and see if the G would work.

just seems strange to me that some OBD-II tools would work and some wouldn't. Since they are all supposed to conform to the same standards.

I am still and trying to get in touch with Auterra about the other one that was mentioned in this post.

More to come later after speaking to Auterra. Hopefully for our sake I won't be having more Crow today, but based upon the fact that the software looks 100% the same, I better get my fork and knife ready.

Manufacturers are required to provide only the standard OBD functions, they can also add their own additional functions if the wish.
