Default Valvebody Upgrade

Hey guys,
I just installed the Transgo VB Upgrade and have put just shy of 100 miles on it and absolutely love the shifts. The only thing that has me intrigued is the fact that as I come to a stop, I can feel the 1st gear downshift as it comes from 2nd --> 1st. It is less noticeable when warm, but still there. It feels very positive and no weird noises are made during this time, but there is a small lunge as it downshifts. I don't mind it one bit, just wondering what the other people that have the kit have felt, everything else is super solid and I can't stop getting on the gas, completely new feeling, and breathed new life into the car.

You talking about an AT i assume?

I feel mine "hard downshift" all the time and i dont even have the VB upgrade. Your paying alittle too much attention to it now, as it was prob there before as well. The car jumps alittle when it downshifts at the lower gears. This is normal, you have nothing to worry about.

On a side note, im friends with a head GTR tech at a Nissan dealership in my area and i was asking him about the MT vs. the AT on the 350 as far as reliability goes. He told me he sees many of the MTs come in now and then and its a good tranny and all, but the AT is bulletproof, hes never seen 1 come in since he has been working for Nissan. I was happy to hear that.

Are you manually downshifting or I "D"?Mine has been installed for about a year now with no problems.Double check your tranny level.

I have over 300 1/4 mile passes on my 5AT while stock and about 100 with the transgo VB @351rwhp...no problems so far. I also have many spirited road miles on it. (shifting up and down).
I had 50 1/4 mile passes on the Stillen VB and that was a piece of crap! It shifted slow up and down.

I have felt the shift that the OP mentions and haven't thought much of it.

I got it shipped to my door for around 220 and the girlfriend's dad and I did it, he has his own shop and a lift and 20+ years experience, I just wanted someone watching over me while I did it...

No, just leaving it in "D" or coming to a stop where it downshifts from 3rd to 1st on its own in "M". Fluid level is fine, I checked it with a computer telling me the temperature on temp sensor 1 and got it to 149 degrees and got it to the right mark as per the FSM.

I know these transmissions are tough, but personal experience speaks for itself, that's pretty impressive. I know reading through other forums, especially like the truck forums for dodge and what not, they say they get a huge jolt slowing down as it shifts into first. The only reason I even made this thread is because the girlfriend noticed it and asked about it, and I had read in all the other valvebody forums and people said that you wouldn't even notice it unless you stomped on it. I like the shift, it's clean and very positive, I was just curious. Thanks guys

500 wtq on mine for 15+k miles and still running great (GTM-5AT level 3 built). So much fun running boost on a 5AT without having to worry about turbos spinning down, etc. between shifts.

My AT is a tank - no transgo upgrade yet as I'm not FI...

That said, Coach K had a built transmission from GTM (i believe) - if someone
could put us in touch I'd appreciate it. I would be interested in purchasing if avail.

Have heard this upgrade is necessary for FI'd setups @ 400hp+

Good feedback sofar - the AT is def underrepped, hated on, and otherwise
trashed - but it's a BEAST.

Because 1) I had heard some good reviews from the transgo kit and just liked the idea of faster crispier shifts, plus it prolongs the life of the tranny (so I've heard). And 2) I had a friend of mine do the install, so the total price of the upgrade wasn't that bad.

I thought my tranny shifted fast when I was N/A too..but it wasn't fast compared to these shift kits. With F/I I am getting a solid 3rd gear tire chirp at about 90mph.
