Maybe so the engine will not flex (when you rev car and engine moves) under heavy acelleration.

if i remember correctly it attaches to the top part of the engine and the engine bay.. basically when you rev the engine, it moves in its engine mounts shifting weight a bit.. so this places it a bit firmer in the frame... was told its useful in turns when doing heal to toe

its exactly what it is named, It dampens the torque effect to keep the motor from moving in the engine bay too much. Ive only seen these on hondas before though.

Not only do they help out under hard/rapid usage of the gas. They are also there to help out cars with smoothing the idle vibrations a bit. The engine stock only has the two lower mounts to keep it in place. Adding a higher point with a shock device adds a third point to help stabilize the motor. This triangle effect works great to keep the motors side to side shaking down to a minimum. I know the grounding kits do wonders to smooth the idle out, add this to the mix and I'm sure it will be "like budda" There are many 4 bangers and 6's in europe that use the same Dampers on stock cars.

The real reason to use one of these is the same as the resoning behind switching to solid motor mounts -- to keep the engine from rotating in the engine bay as a reaction to the torque it is producing.

Bottom line, any energy that is being used to rotate the engine is not being used to move you down the road.

Just another way to recapture those small parasitic losses -- they can add up.

Solid motor mounts are effective for this, but engine vibrations are transmitted straight to the chassis of the car and then to your a$$. Maybe this thing strikes a compromise between energy losses and NVH.

Where would it mount on the VQ35? Would this benefit drag racing, road racing, or both?

Default Attachment point!

Here's my friends car w/ a torque damper. Kit is made for a S14, but easily fit onto our cars.

Not as "bling" as the RSW one, but does the job well. He comments that he can feel a difference under hard shifting.
