Default Mocal sandwich plate quality...well..lack of?

Well I'm beginning to put a together my oil cooler kit with the help of some of the previous posters on this forum.

I ordered the Mocal sandwich plate adapter from Racer Part and to my disappointment when it arrived it's a cast unit...poorly done as far as I can tell from the finish. The thermostat sits somewhat crooked inside the cylinder housing for it. Fortunately when i tested by putting the unit in boiling water, it managed to move.

Anyone ever had a Mocal unit gone bad, especially with the thermostat not moving or poor fit?

i have a mocal on my oil cooler for my 370z you do know that it allows oil flow before fully opening up. mines set to 180degrees so even before it hits 180 there is still some oil flow to the oil cooler.

yes, it looks like the thermostat sits half way open, halfway closed until reaching temp. How big is your oil cooler 'radiator'? Have you noticed a reduction in oil temp or oil pressure?

The casting is rough looking but what's important is the mating surfaces. As long as they are smooth and flat you shouldn't have to worry about the outer/inner casting.

I thought of polishing the inner casting to help flow

For about $100, I thought they could make their mold a little better.

The Greddy / Trust plate is always an option. Excellent quality.

Though mine did cost over $200 shipped from RHD Japan.

the plates work and are machined on the mating surfaces. You can't really complain about the "bling" factor with a part that other companies sell for twice as much. Mine works great and I love it.

yeah true, I finally had everything installed.

I fabricated a mesh screen to protect the fins on the heat exchanger.
