Like the L33, all-aluminum 310/325 5.3L from specific models of Chevy trucks (many of the 5.3's are iron-block, and about 65-70 pounds heavier than the aluminum versions, so do your research if you go this route), LS family, all LS bolt-ons work just fine, same mounting patterns, T56 and all the other standard transmissions bolt up like any other.
Or the L76, basically an LS2 (6.0L, all-aluminum, 367/375 rated from the factory) with the same origination as the L33 above.
As a self-proclaimed cheapskate, I'm doing plenty of research into this arena.

thats a good way to go as well... Ive been looking around just for the kick, seeing options... ive ran into some nice ls2 engines locally, one of a gto and one of a vette.. 15K and 35K miles with tranny harness and everything for 5K.. not badd!
There's a *LOT* of engines out there that are in the LS family that aren't directly named "LS(?)", which can often be had for FAR less money than something named thusly.
