What's a good brand coolant?
What's a good brand coolant to buy? I see prices ranging from $10-$80. According to the service manual we need 50/50 antifreeze. Any suggestions?

25% prestone non pre-mix and 75% water. My bikes get 25% water wetter and 75% water though... Coolant is coolant is coolant really. If you live in a hotter area that never sees under freezing (like me) then you can run less coolant which makes the system work better. Ideally you would run 100% water as that would be most effective, but you need the lubricity of the antifreeze for seals and the water pump.

Water evaporates and adding coolant lowers the boiling point of water in the coolant system, coolant is also a rust inhibitor. If 50/50 is what it calls for than do it... some vehicle manufactures use special coolant ie GM and Honda. I've used factory coolant in my personal experience but most reputable companies do a good job. Make sure that if your in an area that freezes to use Antifreeze if not if you use straight coolant it'll freeze and crack the block(assuming your block doesn't have freeze plugs... i have no idea.)

you should look for a coolant that is Asian vehicle formula. the coolant should be silicate free, and have hybrid organic acids.

or just go to the dealer and get the oem nissan coolant.

I use the green stuff, mixed 50/50 with a splash of water wetter.

Iv read some things about evans that made me second guess it for a street car. It absorbs heat well, but does not release it as efficiently as normal coolant. I have also heard that it is much thicker and has caused premature water pump problems...
do you guys run a pressurized cap with evans?

Care to elaborate? Straight water transfers heat much better than a glycol mix could ever hope to. With a 1.4kPa radiator cap, the boiling point of pure water has already reached 240* Fahrenheit. Add in the 25% glycol and the boiling point is brought up further. I don't know about you, but my car never gets over 220 degrees. All the coolant does is raise the boiling point, lower the freezing point, lubricate and prevent rust. Boiling and freezing would not happen to me even if I were to run straight water. The antifreeze has two purposes for me: lubricate and prevent rust. I change it once a year and have not seen a speck of rust in three years on the Z or 14 on the civic. Feel free to finish your statement though...
