Default Need help: Engine problem

A couple weeks ago I encountered a problem with my engine. Immediately after starting the car, the engine would shut off. I would then restart the car and it was fine after that. Then it happened again twice the following day. It didn't happen again for about 5 days, but it did do it again. My friend attempted to diagnose the problem. He checked my spark plugs, and although he said they could be replaced, he doesn't think that was the problem (I have 86,000 miles on the car, and plugs are supposed to last until 105,000). He said the engine sounds very good. He also checked other parts of the engine as well, but everything he checked seemed to be working fine. My friend thinks it could be an O2 Sensor or a cam/crank sensor not syncing. Does anyone have any idea of what the problem could be??? Should I bring it to Nissan and pay the $120 for them to "diagnose" it?? Any info would be much appreciated.

do you have a check engine light??

does it sound like it chugs before it dies?
do the lights dim before it dies?
does it happen only when the car is cold/been sitting for awhile?

It doesn't matter if the engine is cold or hot. It actually has happened when the engine wasn't cold.
