i'm more surprised that the driver shut off the motor. That kinda damage usually doesnt give the driver any choice. Not to mention the hella mess it woulda created.

Or maybe it didnt create an alarming mess bc there was no oil...

my prediction is the car was an oil burner and had gone way too long without a check of the oil level. oil level was near zero, probably was not driven delicately, and crash, boom, bang was the result.

Boy, if I had a nickel for every "I was just driving down the road" story during catastrophic failure. Besides oil starvation or overheating, there's a good chance he was just beating the crap out of it prior to failure and over stressed the engine. I wonder how groved up the cylinder walls are on all cylinders. Either way, looks expensive.

The spark plugs will give a good idea of what happened.

From the pictures that you have posted ... It seems that the engine might have been running lean. Did your friend reflash the ECU?

I searched .40 over looking for input on the issues I may encounter if I go 3.9 on the 88mm crank and found nothing but threads like this. Since it was well worth the price of admission and there are knowledgeable people in this thread I'll ask:

Can I safely go .40 over using 11.5:1 CP 96.5mm pistons, 88mm BC crank and oem rods (balancing the entire rotating assy)
