I got the stock airbox and decided i will give the oil catch can a chance and see if i get any oil from driving hard.

My problem first is what do i need to connect to the catch can. I think its the PCV line but where is it connected to the stock intake and what is its inner diameter? If anyone can help point out where this line comes form and goes to id really appreciate it.

Also, does it matter how long i run the new lines?

 

What a coincidence, I had the same questions this morning.

I talked with 2 of our sponsors. BJ from 350EVO and Adam from Z-1 Performance.

The tube that will go to the oil catch can is the black tube under the intake. If you look under there you will see it. It's the only black hose connecting to the intake tube.

Adam told me to connect it to the catch can and put a breather filter on the other end of the can. Which sounds fine but you'll have to go buy a breather filter and cap off the hole on your intake.

BJ just told me that they are running the line from the catch can back to the intake like normal.

I would just cut the lines to the appropraite size and leave a little more just in case. Diameter should be 15mm.

Yikes! Thats a mighty big hose.

Hey Mike, did your catch can have 2 or 3 nozzles? The one i got has a total of 3 nozzles. 1 is a 5/8" at the bottom of the can and 2 are 3/8" on the side of the can. Then there is a cap that screws on to the top.

Do you think i can take the line off the stock intake and hook it to the bottom nozzle of the can and then use some sort of adaptor from 1 or 2 of the side nozzles on the can to the intake?

 

Which catch can do you have? Got a pic? Link?

There are 2 small holes facing front for a tube to check the level, then there are 2 large holes for connecting the catch lines.

I think i will have to modify it a lil, like replace one of the 3/8" nozzles with a 5/8". And it looks like its got loctite or some hard glue on it.

One other problem with this catch can design is that the nozzles should all be on the top of the can, right? If they are on the sides of the can, wont it only be able to fill up less then half way before it needs to be emptied? If it is installed on its sides, then the fill bar is useless. The only thing nice about it is that it has a screw on cap at the top and i can probably run a few short lines inside from the threads on the nozzle to the top of the can.

 

Yeah it looks a little weird.

When you order Cusco or Greddy can they ask you to specify wether you want 9mm or 15mm.

Oh yeah, were did you buy it too. I think I saw you post that somewhere else but this post would be a good place too. Couldn't find it on the 2 vendor's sites you mentioned.

I bought the Greddy tank..the 15mm size, don't know if line size makes a diff or not..any thoughts on this? Anyway after searching for 15mm hose, wasn't able to come up with anything, anywhere, checked with all of our industrial suppliers at work, still no luck.
I'm thinking this:

Connect hose from adapter (Injen CAI) to tank.
From tank to port on intake, the one where the hose/filter supplied by Injen connects.

Guess at this point I'm lookink at Russell SS hose(size -8, 1/2" I.D.) with the proper adapters/fittings also from Russell. The only problem here is adapting from the Injen port to the SS line. Might end up making my own. Anybody have any better suggestions?

 

I have the above can that Mike posted and I have two issues:

1. I can find a good place to mount it near my Injen intake.

2. I am not certainly that the PCV hose on the intake is the best for the can. I removed my upper plenum and it *appeared* as though the oil came in from the vacuum line on the passenger side of the plenum. I did have a little oil in my plenum. However, I had none in my intake. Take that as you will.

In any case, I am not mounting my can until I can identify the best hook-ups and location.

not the breather hose connected to the intake tube. I had mine this way and never saw oil in the can or in the hoses.

I re-routed the PCV hose (on RH valve cover to front of lower plenum) through the can. After a couple of weeks of driving, I can see some oil collecting in the hose going to the can and the hose going back to the plenum is fairly clean.

Important note. Do not use the clear tubing on the PCV valve, it will collapse when hot and under vacuum. I bought molded hoses from autozone, a 90° elbow for the PCV valve and U-shaped hose for the plenum fitting. I used 3/8" hose couplings and connected the molded hoses to some of the clear reinforced hose that comes with a Greddy can.

FYI: the hose connected to the RH side of the upper plenum is the brake booster vac line.

Also: If anyone has any comments on the way I hooked mine up, please feel free to let them out. I'm new to these catch can things and havent took my upper plenum off to verify that this oil is intended for some kind of lubrication of the upper end of the motor. I know that sounds wacky but, its something to think about.

you can easily find 15mm hose at any auto parts store...heater hose works great, as does fuel line (rubber).
