Default HELP...new clutch is too big?

Hey Everyone,

So I've been lurking for awhile and need some help. I'm having the clutch replaced on my 05 Z. It's a perf model w/ 70,000 miles. I ordered an OEM Exedy replacement clutch from 1Aauto.com. I DD the Z and it is bone stock.

So the shop just called and said that the new clutch is bigger than the one that came out of the car. The disc is also too big and is not going to work.

Any ideas? Are there different size OEM clutches? I looked around a lot when ordering and everything I found said 03-06 so I figured there was just one size.

Thanks for any help.

The part # from 1A is 1ATCK00048 ... Here's the link http://www.1aauto.com/1A/clutchparts...48/342960/2005

When I was searching I searched for NSK1000.

I'd have your Shop call A1 to find out how there going to get the right parts to them.

Yeah that's not the exedy part#, it's the only one I have right now though. I'm pretty sure the part # was NSK1000 but I can't confirm since I don't have the box in front of me.

I'm going to call them soon to see if they have any updates. And if they don't have any news I will definitely have them call A1.

My first thought was maybe there were 2 dif clutches for this year depending on trim but that's not the case.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I'll update when this gets figured out.

Ok so minor update...

Called 1A and they say that's the correct part. And I verified the part # with my mechanic as NSK1000.

The mechanic says the disc he removed measures 9.5" and the new one from exedy measures 9.75". He said all the mounting points line up he's just not positive if there will be "clearance."

Can anyone verify the correct disc size or whether it will matter if the new one is .25" bigger?

That is the Correct P/N from Exedy, I'm sure Exedy has already verified that a 9-7/8" (250mm) disk works.....

I Think you OK......

Your Mechanic should be able to tell by looking at it.....

Yea I think he just doesn't want to be on the hook if it's not right since I took the clutch in and he didn't order it himself.

Thanks for the input! I'll update as the saga unravels...

Update....

The shop is finishing the car as we speak but it hasn't been driven yet. 1A also called me today to follow up. They said the disc that comes with the new kit supposedly only works w/ a solid flywheel. After searching the forum I see that many people have added aftermarket clutch kits and kept the stock dual mass flywheel.Does 1A not know what they're talking about or am I going to have a problem on my hands when the shop goes to drive the car??

Ok Final update in case anyone ever has this question/problem in the future...

Everything turned out great! Drivetrain is back together and the car drives just like it should. Clutch seems to engage even lower maybe due to the bigger disc? But maybe that's just wishful thinking...

Again thanks for all those who contributed to the thread.

The pre-2005 had a 250mm clutch disc.

Post 2005 had a 240mm clutch disc.

2005 have one or the other, depending upon when the car was built.

You can adjust the engagement hight per your taste, under the dash, do a search.

Thanks PDX that's what I was wondering. How had no one else run in to this problem? I figured shops just swapped in the new equipment and didn't compare, or maybe they figured it would just work. Whatever the case, everything seems to be working just fine and hopefully it will stay that way!
