Default Engine Torque Specs

Can someone help me understand the Service Manual torque specs?

Is it giving me a range? Saying within that range is acceptable? So if I'm reading it right it is saying anything between 64-85 inch-lbs?

I swear this forum use to be a lot more helpful. Guess all the 350z guys have moved on to bigger and better toys.

All that means is that the torque specs must meet with in that range of numbers that was given to you. 65lbs is the minimum to torque that specific bolt and 85 is the max.. nothing lower than 65 nothing more than 85 lbs of torque.. . torque wrench. can dail in the specific torque that is required by the fsm. This will ensure u of no broken bolts or studs due to not over torquing the bolts unlike regular ratchets..

Appreciate it mate. Didn't realize they had such large variations that were acceptable?

So what do the other numbers mean? I would have thought lb-feet but that is represented by different icon in the key.

those are other measurements for torque.

maybe you shouldn't be wrenching?

I think I'll be fine. Thanks for your concern.

What I didn't get is why have two different key icons for lb-ft and lb-inch when you are going to include both on every bolt.

They don't include them on every bolt. They list a range, 5-10 and the symbol tells you whether that is in-lb or ft-lb.

And just so we are clear there is a factor of 12 difference between the two.

The "yup" answered your question. You were correct in your assumptions, so he was answering the only relevant question at that point. No reason to imply insults regarding his simple answer to your simple question.

7.2 - 9.7 = N*m
.74 - .98 = kg*m
64 - 85 = in-lb

Hey babyzilla what are you torquing? The entire engine? I will be soon. Just got back from home depot and got some bolts to fasten a full long block I got 4 days ago onto an engine stand. I will tear it down, take it to get the bottom end built and then assemble everything following these same torque specs you ask about.

This forum is hugely invaluable on the amount of info it has. It just takes lots of reading and digging around old threads sometimes to get the specific info you are looking for.

Oh and don't mix those torque specs up. Like they say... measure twice and cut once.

Thanks for the help guys.. I've got it all sussed and dialed in the new torque wrench..

I have another Q though regarding the service manual. Is there any way to get a PN for a bolt or screw etc? The service manual shows the bolt and torque specs but no PN, if say you loose one. How would you find out the correct bolt?

Do I need FAST?
