Default Does it matter which VLSD I swap into my Base

I've got a 2006 350Z Base 6sp and I'm wondering if there is any difference in the VLSDs that came in 350Zs and G35s. Can I get any VLSD out of a 6sp Z or G and swap it in directly and have everything work as if it came that way?

Yes. As long as it's not from an automatic. But dont waste your money on that. Save up for a real LSD.

I hear Quaife LSDs are where its at. I've got a base too but I've got some other mods on my list before I get to dropping in an LSD.

Step 1. Decide what sort of driving you will be doing.

Step 2. Decide whether 1.5way or a 2way LSD would be ideal.

Step 3. Review LSD's and purchase the one that meets your needs and budget. Be sure to take into account whether it is a drop in replacement for your base 350z otherwise you will need to take into account the added cost of stub axles etc...

Kaaz and Quaife make 2way LSDS

Cusco, Nismo, Carbonetics, OS Giken make 1.5 way

Thanks for the input guys. I don't do any racing or crazy driving so I think a regular OEM 1.5 way vlsd would be fine for me. Also, I want to spend a few hundred bucks, not a thousand or more. I also want it to be a drop in replacement so I think I've got my answer.

Is there a way to test a vlsd unit to see that it is in good working order prior to purchasing it?

Vlsd loose their attributes realy quickly. Once that happens it becomes an open diff again so you would be right back where you started. for your needs yes I would go with a 1.5. Quiafe so you don't have to do much maintenance. I have a carbonetics 2 way. No complaints

We have run Quiafe, Carbonetics, and OS Giken on alot of our race applications and OS Giken hands down it the best. We recently switched our drift 350Z over from a Carbonetics to an OS Giken and have had nothing, but positive feedback. Like stated above, don't waste your money on a VLSD that will wear out within time. Save up for the real deal and you will be much happier in the end.

We have OS Giken LSDs readily available for purchase and/or installation. Feel free to PM or call me about pricing at any time. Keep in mind OS Giken recommends new bearings and shims (optional) upon installation, so if you aren't comfortable with swapping the new LSD into your original carrier we can take care of this all in house and ship you out a complete OS Giken LSD differential.

VLSD is a waste of money.
