New 350z engine swap advice
Hello everyone i recently got a 2004 350z manual with 86,000 miles on it, i took it too the stealer and had all the preventive maintenance done on it and everything is running good.
After reading over this forum for mod ideas i seen alot of people talking about swapping the VQ35DE (2003-2006) for the VQ35HR (2007+) engines and i had a few questions.
1.) What is the average price to have the entire swap done by a professional?
2.) Can i buy these engines right from the factory or do i have to find a used one?
3.) What are the positives of this swap compared too the negatives?
4.) is this a very common thing 350z owners do?
i appreciate any help you can give me, thanks.

is a v8 swap even possible lol i drive a audi a6 with a 4.2l v8 and i do not think that it will even come close to fitting in a Z......not to mention the added weight to the front end of the car.
I think more people have done v8 swaps than VQ35HRs. I'm sure it has been done but I don't think I've seen someone do it on this board. Most of the threads are just people saying don't do it.
If you haven't been on this forum at all, use the search button. There are numerous LSx swaps and built engines. The HR engine is not a cost effective swap for a car with a DE motor.
I can't stress to you enough the importance of searching before you ask a question like this. You really need to learn how to forum works before you start posting something that's been asked hundreds of times before.
Asking this before searching not only clutters up the search function for other people, but leads you to dead ends because they're all just threads with the same question.

We've detailed a VQ35HR swap in past issues of Nissan Sport magazine. There are many parts involved in properly doing such a swap from a DE or Rev up engine, but it's the electronic swap that really causes the headaches. Without a talented technician, it's impossible and retaining the OEM ECM, wiring harness and BCM will result in CELs popping up on your dash.
Bottom line: it's not easy, cheap or common to see this VQ swap done...

a ls engine in my Z and i would probably have that thing wrapped around a tree within a month lol.
Sorry but this swap seems EXTREMELY stupid IMO. I'll give you some better ideas... LS1, LS2, LS3, RB26DETT, 2JZ, hell maybe even the new ford 5.0 might be something new to try (you can be the first!)
. For the love of God if you want to do an engine swap do not put in an HR!
