Clutch pedal has a lot of play all of a sudden
Im on vacation, but right before i left my clutch pedal started acting up on my 06 350z. It has the stock cluctch, flywheel and shifter etc. While driving the clutch pedal went from an inch or so of free play at the top of the stroke to almost half of the entire stroke of the pedal. It still engaged and disengaged correctly, didnt feel or hear sny grinding, rpms were where they should be for speed and gear, except one time when shifting from 3rd to 2nd it just kind of slipped out of 3rd and into 2nd, just didnt feel right, that was right before i got home, and i havent driven it since. Does anybody have any ideas, suggestions? Also, any good import transmission shops around Augusta, i usually take my car toarc younts for standard work but i dont think he does transmissions.
No I actually never thought of it just beingnlowon fluid, ill have to chek that when I get back home. I haven't seen it leaking any fluid, no wet spots in my parking spot at work or my garage. Could it "burn through" clutch fluid?
It could be the slave cylinder on the transmission, mine is out and the clutch pedal gets stuck half way to the floor and I stall the car sometimes because of it. It could also be the pivot ball or the throw out bearing.
hmmm... I checked the fluid level, it's just a hair below max, I think I'm gonna have to bring it in and get it looked at, I've got an extended warranty and I believe they'll cover a lot of this, just have to see how much of it they will cover.

Once your car cools down, the clutch pedal will be back to normal. But then the problem will come back again under the same driving condition.
I suggest you drive your car until the pedal has a lot of free play or get stuck half way. Then got to the dealer and have the tech come out to see the problem right away. Or else once you leave the car with them, when it's time for the dealer tech to check your car, he will tell you there's no problem with the clutch pedal because your clutch line has already cooled down.
By the way, before you change anything, try bleeding the clutch line a few times or as many times as need to get the clutch fluid to be as clear as new fluid. If that doesn't solve the problem, it is THEN you look into getting the clutch master cylinder replaced.
Good luck.
Same exact thing happened to me this evening. It was about 85 degrees out and I did some stop and go driving with a few downshifts thrown in there, and after about 15 minutes of driving I noticed the same symptoms. After every shift the pedal would not spring back to normal height so I would pop it back out with my toes. When I got the car home and parked it for a half hour, I went back out and the clutch pedal seems to be back to normal (still a little sticky, but does pop all the way back out).
I think I'll take this to the dealer and just describe to them what is happening. I also have an extended warranty so hopefully they play ball.

Its the master, gunk is built up in it, needs to be disassembled and cleaned, rebuilt or replaced.
I like the rebuild part, $15 in parts from Nissan, and 2 hours of time if you have limited mechanical knowledge.

Is there DIY around here for how to do that, and bleeding the clutch fluid?
