Default Oil cooler mounting...

I am going to install an oil cooler setup similar to jeffie7's DIY. My only question is whether to mount it with the inlet/outlet facing up or down? Mounting it with the inlet/outlet down, to me, seems like it would be less efficient because of gravity...I would think that it would drain out faster, and so therefore not cooling as much. Mounting it with them facing up seems like it would allow the oil cooler to be more effective. For my application it would be a bit easier to mount it with the inlet/outlet facing down. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for any input.

My Trust setup is installed with the ports facing down and bolted to the front crash bar.

Oil is pressurized, it shouldn't matter how the cooler is mounted.

Facing down will help allow the cooler to drain when you do an oil change.

Very true, I didn't even think about that. I just take disconnecting the an- hoses for granted, but if it was mounted vertical they wouldn't drain.

Mount it in the front where you have proper air flow. Mounting it with the lines at the bottom is better for an oil change but you can never get every drop out regardless of where your lines are placed because of gravity and how far up your lines are compared to your oil pan.

Make sure your oil lines are the correct size as well as your oil cooler for your setup especially since you're F/I.

Do you really want the oil cooler to drain when you do an oil change? That's going to add several seconds at the least to the time the engine has to run before pressure is built up in the system.

Thanks for the input. For ease of mounting, I am going to mount it with the inlet/outlet at the bottom. I think it is gonna be mounted in front of my intercooler for good airflow. Also, I am using 10 AN lines. I think that should be sufficient for good oil flow. I am kind of curious about how long it will take to build up pressure after an oil change. Any thoughts on this?

About 5 to 7 seconds total, not a big deal. Just don't rev the car. BTW its not like you are cleaning the oil out from the bearing and running them dry.

Just unplug the injector harness or pull the fuse for the fuel pump (its by the battery) and crank the car for a few seconds without firing it up. Problem solved.

Facing down will help allow the cooler to drain when you do an oil change.
If you are lowered be careful about how low you put the 90* bends on the bottom of the car. I had to mount mine connection side up to get the proper clearance. If you bottom out hard and rip off a line or fitting you most likely won't know until its too late.
