Default Whats the best cold air induction?

I am getting ready to do a couple of mods this winter. The first will be a cold air induction. I have been looking at AEM, Injen, and K&N. I have heard of some problems with water and rough idling with the long ram. I also heard that a bypass valve solves the water issue. What are some opinions?

The other question, Is a short ram better or worse than the long ram.

The OEM airbox is currently the best for the dollar.

The CAIs are dyno'g zero positive gains on the dyno. More importantly our OEM airbox becomes pressurized at speed. MEANING - RAMAIR... guess what? You can't dyno that!

That given the CAIs sound great.

Honestly, save your cash - If you want EASY bolt-on power. Look at the Crawford Plenum (www.crawfordzcar.com) - it creates power CAIs could only DREAM about making. 9 hp @ peak - 17 hp @ redline.

Enjoy!

Intakes are more for Sound...

The JWT Pop Charger I think is the best bang for the buck at the moment intake wise.

We have them now on our site really low,

I use a tube off a Injen Intake. I keep stock setup for functionality and have the CAI sound due to the metal tube. Best of both worlds.

I agree with Jason that the JWT is the best non stock setup. It has both a velocity stack and venturi and does not stick out in the open elements. We are trying to figure out how to enclose it to keep a pressurized air box while having the advantages that the JWT offers. If we figure out a solution and it does not lose power I will probably swap it out for that.

Personally, I love my Nismo CAI (got it from Performance, got it for the sound). I'm hoping to get more out of it once I get the Ram Air setup from Roark.

NISMO CAI. It is the only one with a water diverter.

Whats up with the name change.

Yeah kinda like the K&N but without the snorkel. I think the stock ram setup will pressurize better that a CAI snorkel. But that is just the engineer in me thinking. I would have to test a few things.

AEM has one too. The Nismo is just a rebadged AEM product.

So far I am liking the K&N... the sound is great, it has the same arrangement as the JWT filter, velocity stack and venturi...

I dont love the metal piping... but its been fine for me. I do like how it is one solid pipe that includes the MAF sensor and does not use the stock MAF piping...

Jim Wolf Pop Charger. I've seen at least two dynos showing a 6.5 hp gain. Jim Wolf has longstanding good reputation with Z32 owners. Their Pop Charger design has been copied by other manufacturers. Performance Nissan has a great price on it.

I bought it, I recommend it over AEM, Injen and the K&N I used before it.

Interesting because the K&N we are talking about is a combination of the two intakes people say are best. Stock and JWT.

I just ordered JWT the other day after reading a lot of posts. $100 shipped form Courtesyparts.com. I just want the sound and the look basically, too bad its a blue filter though, i wanted red!

I'm sorry, I need to clarify, my K&N was the drop in air-filter and not the K&N Typhoon. I have no comment on the latter.

VandyZ and I did much the same. Took off the Injen CAI and kept the chrome tube. Did have to shorten 1" to attach the OEM. Removed the OEM filter and used K&N. Looks good, sounds great and RPM drop is GONE.

Save the cash, stay OEM - it's a great design, take a long weekend drive and enjoy the ride with a friend.
