Default New Tranny installed "review"

let me start by saying THANK YOU once again to jeff@performance for getting it changed for me! now for my review. the first couple of things i noticed was 1. clutch pedal feel! it seems some what lighter to me. just a little, wich is fine i guess? its like driving a whole new car! the pedal needs to be released a little further from the floor to engage now as well. its fine. i just need some time to re adjust. 2. the shifter itself seems "odd"? it seems to be just a small bit taller??? not sure how/why, but id put money on its a qtr/half inch taller?? all the gears felt good with the exception of 5th. i REALY had to SHOVE it into 5th gear!! notice i said "had to", after i drove it for an hour or so, it started going in very smooth. (is that normal for a new tranny??) feels great now! now for the real kicker.........the dyno!! no, im not dynoing because of my tranny. but 2 weeks ago i took first place in a dyno shootout for highset N/A 6 (247whp) i beat out a Z roadster (235whp stock!) and an M3 (225whp or so??) you shouldve seen the highest F/I 6....624whp single turbo supra!! UNREAL!!: )! and tonight there is another one! $25 for two pulls! last time i won a $100 gift certificate, and a trolphie!! cant beat that!! its a different dyno though? im going for fun, and to try and hold my title! ill let you guys know how it goes! hope this kills some of the questions about the newest tranny? its only been in for 12 hours or so, but ill keep you posted how its doing as i break it in! latter guys. wish me luck!!: )

I got a new tranny a few months ago and I have a horrible time getting it into 5th or 6th gear. I'll be taking it back to the dealer soon for them to look at it. sigh

Yes, you deserve a replacement. Whether there is a dealer in your area that will agree to do it is another matter... We SoCal'ers are lucky to have Performance Nissan to rely on for top notch customer service. I, too, just got my tranny replaced with the newest version (w/ clutch pedal assembly).
My experience thus far with the new set-up (1 Day) is similar to what DeeZee described. The clutch is lighter feeling, and the shifter seems a tad higher/longer. The clutch engages very smoothly now; no more shudder! The tranny shifts much better in general. In comparison to the original tranny, shifting effort is reduced by maybe 25%. However, 5th and 6th do require more effort than other gears, but no grinding at all. With time, I'm sure it will smooth out nicely. I think I can start loving my car again :-)

remember that there is an easy adjustment to make 5th and 6th gears easier to shift into. It's on this forum somewhere. I didn't have the problem, so I didn't save it. Basically the shifter needs to be adjusted to the right a tiny bit.

Can someone describe where the plastic 'hooks' are that hold the cosole in place? I want to make sure I remove it without damaging those pesky little tabs...
Is there any trick to lifting the console up?
Thanks!

i have taken it out an A$$ load of times!! you WONT break it! do this, put your fingers (all 4) in the shifter boot behind the shifter. (cloest to the change cup) rest your palm on the plastic behind it. then pull up on it slowly. it wont take much! its that easy! it will pop right out. just give more force slowly! its realy quite simple! please let us know how it turns out for you! im POSITIVE that is what it is!!!! my new tranny is awsome now!!

Thanks, DeeZee!
Did you do it w/o removing the shift ****? If so, is it still straightforward, or tricky?
Thanks,
Mika

just a quick update on this topic. i went to my nissan dealer yesterday, and had a sit down with the service manager. i took the post on how to fix this with me! once i explained what the problem was, he got together a package, and faxed it all to nissan CO. my hopes in doing this is that it will get added to the new tranny install guide! so noone else goes through this. luckily i found out about it quickly, so i didnt do any damage to the guide plate, or worse yet my NEW tranny!! iv even heard of people getting the NEW tranny replaced with ANOTHER new tranny because of the 5th 6th gear issues! all over a 10min adjustment????
