Default Need a new throttle body!

So, my tuner advised me that my idle issues (high idle) are resulting from a bad throttle body, and now I need to find a new throttle body! I’ve been looking around online and found some refurbished units for roughly $100, has anyone used these throttle bodies? I’ve been looking around on dealer websites and their prices are around $500, I could’ve sworn I’ve seen them for a lot less though?

Also, I’ve heard that the newer throttle bodies from Nissan have an idle adjustment screw… is it only a particular year? And would it be compatible with my 2003 6MT G35 Coupe?

Thanks!

cant see how there would be an idle screw on a drive by wire throttle body

I'd personally sooner just get one from a junkyard, with as low miles as possible vs a rebuilt unit. Never had good luck with rebuild DBW pieces before, but could just be me.

Yeah, I wasn’t sure either… here's the thread I was reading about the adjustment screw: https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...ent-screw.html

why does he think that its your TB and not your tuning?

If its not reset properly or you dont have it mapped right in the software, its gonna idle inproperly.

If there was something mechanically wring with it, you'll throw a code.

Is your proefi controlling the TB or is the stock computer?

He spent some time trying to get the car to idle below 1000rpm but the idle wasn’t staying at that rpm. Right now the ProEFI’s controlling the throttle; about a week ago we had the factory ECU controlling it, same issue pretty much with either computer controlling it. I think I may just need to reset it though…I’ll try that before I order a new throttle body though.

My brother randomly started having the same issue on his single turbo, ProEFI 350Z, he took the throttle body off to get the plenum polished and after putting it back together he’s having the same high idle now.

when larry tried tuning my TB with the Proefi, it idled where he told it to (1000 rpms vs 1350rpms). WOuldnt cold start for **** though. Jason basically said good luck with big cams.

Luckily we got my stock TB working again, so back to the ECU controlling. I have higher idle as well, but my idle was bumped in a reflash, but still idling higher than the 1200rpm reflash target. I need to reflash it again and lower it some.

In the end, if the Proefi cant make the car idle wherever Jason sets it to, then ya, prolly need a new TB (assuming there is no other vacuum issues). Have you done a leak check?

So, you can reflash the factory computer with Osiris to idle where you want it to? I was always under the impression that the reflash I have on the factory computer would be completely bypassed (I got my car tuned on Osiris back when I was NA in 2009)?

I am using the stock ECU to run the TB (there are 2 sets of plugs for TB and Cams, one for stock ECU control and 1 for Proefi control). We tried to let the Proefi control it, but cold starts were awful. It wasnt worth my money or Larry's time to try to dial it in.

If you let the stock ECU control the TB, then ya, a reflash will set your idle wherever you want it. Otherwise, if Proefi is controlling it, you can set the idle whereever you want as well. On the stock ECU I idle at 1300 bc of the reflash. On the Proefi, I was idling around 1000.

Thanks for the info str8dum1! I’ll try the reset first, if that doesn’t work new throttle body, and then I’ll re-flash the ECU again. BTW, Do you have traction control setup on your car?

lol, that Mines throttle body seems like a waste of money for me, I’ll be happy with the performance I have right now as long as I can get it to idle correctly…

ya i have the TC all ready to go, but havent tested it yet. We still have to calibrate the front wheel speed sensors as its only a 2 wheel dyno. Car is still with Larry. Had to get a turbo rebuilt so it only has a little bit of dyno time on it with the Proefi, nothing on the road yet.

The TB is adjustable manually also. Leave it plugged in and move the throttle plate closed with your hand. Also turn key to on position.

It worked for me before.

I don't know why soo many people have problems with them. I bathed mine in brake fluid and even dropped it on concrete. It's fine.
