Default Nitrous or Supercharger

Which one HP for HP is safer? Say I was putting down 340whp with nitrous and 340whp with a supercharger. Which one would be safer if both were tuner correctly? I know ive been asking alot about supercharger reliability but this is my daily driver and I put like 75miles on a day just going to work and back. Im just trying to figure out which is the best way to go. Pretend they cost the same. Which one would you go with for the most relability? In the long run.

Thanks,
Chris.

Mod up for N/A daily driving and for 1k you can have a safe N20 setup at the track.

Keep the bottle empty when not racing.

SCer, more money more care needed, always on whether you need it or not. More safety and tuning required. Just stay slightly flat.

Pros and Cons to both, define your goal.

Weekend Warrior?

Street Racer?

Porsche Eater?

Occasional Tracker?

Warranty Worrier?

Well here is the deal....Im getting a supercharger/installation/tuning for $2000 from Vortech so they can use my car for the CARB testing. I am just trying to figure out if I want to have it for the long run or any keep it on there for a limited time. Do you think I will have to do lots of maintenence on the supercharger? Or once it's tuned will I not have to play with it. I will also get a J&S Safegaurd to be safe. So what do you guys think? I dont want to have to f*ck with the thing all the time to get it to run right. I did that with my last car and I got really sick of it.

Thanks,
Chris

Sweet! Assuming they take the time to calibrate the A/F ratio on the dyno (which I'm sure they'll do), that's a great deal and I don't think the ongoing maint will be that involved.

Take it. The blow off valve on the vortech sounds awesome. I mean you wont be able to out run me, but you'll get closer with the vortech.

See you at the next meet?

Skk100, do you experience worse mileage since the Stillen boosts at much lower RPMs than a centrifugal?

If it was my car, I'd rather have the S/C. I feel that the S/C is more fun in more situations than N20. I am not a straight line racer (except when pulling onto highways or into the carpool lane) and instead prefer curves. Therefore, N20 doesn't work so well for what I want to do. Also, it can not be modulated, do you can only use it when you really want to go ***** out. The S/C can be controlled, and can be used more often and more easily. Also, the S/C doesn't require refills, so it's always there when you need it (not that the Z NEEDS more power - but it sure doesn't hurt).

Vortech seems to have a pretty good reputation, so it is probably a safe kit, especially if you are not beating on the car all the time. My only experience was at a track earlier this year when I witnessed an S2000 catch on fire because one of the oil lines to the Vortech S/C ruptured and leaked onto the engine. I saw the owner at another track day recently, but never had a chance to ask him whether his car still has the Vortech installed (he still had an S2000 of the same color as the one that caught on fire, so I assume everything got fixed). So, just be sure to keep those oil lines checked and you should be fine (or route them away from hot stuff if possible).

That's one of the reasons im weary about keeping the kit on there for long. I drive the s*it out of my car at times....And I know I would be boosting like crazy/constantly im worried that the engine wont take my abuse for long. The same thing happened on my prelude. I had a turbo kit on for only a few days before I broke a piston. Boosting 6lbs

I ran both Nitrous and then a Supercharger on my Prelude. In terms of speed/power they were close. The supercharger was more fun because the power was always there, but it did take a lot more work in the tuning and maitenance of it.

With the 350z I'm starting to lean towards doing the basic bolt ons and then adding a 75-100shot. The car has good power and seems to get decent gains. My goal would be 250whp daily driver with 100whp on tap.

would it be possible to do both Nos and SC? set it up so the nos only kicks in @ higher rpms and the SC takes care of the low rpms.... would this work?

the way i see it is ..... in the straight line aspect ..... u can safely get the same power out of both the suppercharger and n20.... but one for fraction of the cost ........

i really dont think spending all that money (well not in your care of course ) on a supercharger or TT setup is worth it if your not going to rebuilf the entire bottom end ...... cause your probaly gonna be limited to 400 wheel horse power before things start to go wrong ...... and we know that 400 whp is obtainable both my SCing and N20 (weve got plenty of people running that 150 shot) ......

i think i will be going with N20 for a few years, let the TT kits come down in price, and get ready for a bottom end build ..... and at this point that saves me ... what $7000 ... and ill be puttin down the same power ..... works for me!

Yeah but by then the rest of us will be putting down 600-800 whp...
