Default Whats that smell?....

Hey guys, I just changed the tranny fluid for the car today. As most of you know, this can be a sorta messy job and alot of the fluid leaked out when taking off the filler cap, when filling it all the way, and much of it dripped down the casing of the tranny. So after driving it, there is a very crisp smell, like very burnt bacon and plastic, and im wondering if this is just because the fluid that got on the casing is burning or if its something more serious... i mean, is this normal?? thanks

sdZ33 - Thank you, that was exactly what I thought of when I read the post title.

Gear oil doesn't smell pretty...especially when reheated. Stick to lighter weight solvents and sealants for more olfactory fun.

I agree, but i have never had any gear oil smell like burnt bacon/plastic...

If anything gear oil reminds me of really bad B.O.

Maybe OP left some harness up against the exhaust or something? although i dont see why he would have needed to do anything along the lines of that for a tranny flush...hmmm

Smells like bacon? Hm. I wouldn't mind that to be honest.
