Default Upgrade to cd009 transmission

oh masters of my350z, I can use some help with figuring out the upgrade to a cd009 transmission for my Z. I've done lots of searching and read all the relevant posts I could find but I am still a little unclear.

On one hand I read a cd009 is a cd009 regardless of the year. On the other I've read that there are some compatibility issues. So what is the final answer for this? And are there any other parts I need to replace if I go with a used transmission. Or parts I will need to swap over if I buy a new one?

My Z is a 2003.

In exchange for information I promise to put up a swap your transmission DIY, like the one I did for replacing the front wheel bearing.

Look into shift fork and pivot ball differences between 2003 and 2004+

the only compatibility issues there are is the newer transmissions that have the concentric slave. All of the de manual trans will fit on all of the DE engines with no problems. Like the post above states make sure you put the correct length pivot ball. I think importpartspro.com sells them and lists which one requires which pivot ball.

Thanks for the replies. So any de cd009 will work. And I assume all cd009 require the shorter pivot ball since the cd009 is '05+?

Any thoughts about upgrading the shifter fork in addition to the pivot ball? Is it really at risk of breaking with an upgraded clutch?

no, those transmissions are all 05 and older for the DE's. The cd001-cd009 is the same transmission but just upgrades on the inside. They are not used on the HR. That's a different version all together.

I think the 009 uses a shorter one. I don't know since mine was upgraded by the dealership they automatically put the correct pivot ball in there.

for anyone that searches in the future (and hasn't already figured it out).

cd009 transmission years 2004-2006 of the 350z, uses the shorter pivot ball.

Hi All, I did not see an answer to four50ncalif's question and I have the same one. I am looking at getting a CD009 from a low mileage 2006 donor at a local savage yard. So, I would assume that the Clutch Fork Pivot Ball and Clutch Fork would come in the transmission. I can't imagine a savage yard pulling it out. So, as long as I verify that it is the shorter one, I should be good, right?

Also, does anyone know if the requirement for this shorter ball is related to the clutch slave cylinder? It appears the 2003 use a 30610-CD00A and the 2004 and above use a 30620-CD00B.

Lastly, I saw in another post that the 2003 transmission has a different shifter bracket (aka control lever HOUSING ASSY-CONTROL LEVER) and I will need to make sure the used transmission comes with this bracket. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks in advance.

I too am buying one from a local salvage yard. I will update soon as I am picking up the cd009 tranny for my 2003 350z tomorrow.

Yes, when I picked it up from the salvage yard it still had the clutch fork and pivot ball there, so technically I dont need to replace it, however, I will probably still replace them so that I dont have to worry about them failing on me ever and screwing up the tranny.
