200+ MPH 350Z build thread
#42
I totally thought this was going to be one of those build threads that lingers on for years before anything was remotely completed. This is an incredible build, and I can't wait for more updates.
Keep up the excellent work!

Is it just me or is that an OEM rear diff bushing, after all the work done on the rest of the subframe, why not put in a solid aluminum bushing
But amazing build, I see some great things going with this build, are you thinking more time attack or what? I know this is time attack crazy kinda build

Yes those are rubber bushings on the rear diff, we actually disscussed that at length and decided to leave them OEM, because the car has IRS there is very little rotational torque on the diff, so we left them factory to help in absorbing shock.
Thanks to Cass007 for moving this post, sorry if I originally posted this in the wrong section.
A couple of things reguarding this car, I started this thread, with the car being 75% completed, we are hoping to have this car on track by late next month. However I was involved in a very bad car accident last night and both my legs are pretty torn up, so im going to be out of work for at least a couple of weeks, but all the guys at the shop are great and will take up the slack and keep the project moving forward. The good news is ill have alot of time to bring this thread up to date.
At the moment the pain meds are kicking in and I am having trouble typing(lol) so Ill do the next technical post later today.
Thanks again to everyone for their continued intrest !

Welcome to the forums dave. I don't think we have ever met but I've been in the shop quite a few times. I rent the dyno to do personal tuning and tuning of some other cars (350z's and of course my silver g35). I know john quite well. I was just up there a month ago tuning a friends silver vortech 350z. We were checking out your beast. Can't wait to see it done.
Not sure if john ever mentioned my car. It was the 650hp silver g35. I can't remember the name of your other tuner (tall and shaved head) but I gave him a ride in it when i was there last month. We had quite the fun out on that industrial road.
Do you guys know if it will be buttoned up and running this summer? I wouldn't mind coming down and seeing it on the dyno when you get it going.

Thanks for all the well wishes from everyone! Im sorry i didnt get up another post, but the pain meds pretty much knocked me out, yesterday. But im going to get this done, so lets go.
The body kit is next on the list as promised. When we set out to build this car, it was decided that everything on this car had to be off the hook, so the body should be no exception. After looking around we found a killer widebody kit from Azuka. The doors, roof, rear hatch and hood are all carbon fiber. The fenders, nose, side skirts, rear quarter skins and rear bumper are all racing fiberglass. We will be running a 18x13 wheel in the back and an 18x11 in the front, all of which will fit well inside the fenders.
So as im sure you have already seen in other pics on here, I cut off the roof and rear quarters. Using 3M 8115 panel bond we reattatched the rear quarters and just finished glueing on the roof, this week. After the windshield is fitted(Lexan), i will install aluminum straps from the roof to the windshield, to ensure the roof doesnt peel off at 200+,LOL. The front and rear bumpers are Dzus'ed on, for quick removall and servicability. The car was sent to the bodyshop and they painted the cage and rear quarters, the rest of the body should be going to the body shop next week, They will be cutting all of the vents out of the front fenders to reduce lift and also some cool air for the brakes. We are running the largest rear duel element allowed by the rules.
As with all body kits, the fitment SUCKED, especially for a kit that cost almost 10 grand. But this is a race car and chances are its going to get busted up a bit, so while the fit isnt perfect, its not a show car, its a race car!
I think that pretty well covers the body, from here im just going to start covering the drivetrain, I know thats what everybodys been waiting for. Probably going to get started on that tomorrow.

Definitely excited like everyone else about the outcome of this build. Sorry, but I'm one to nitpick: You have all these killer parts planned for the car and yet you're running *Megan Racing* parts? Just curious why you made that choice. Perhaps their suspension is known to be higher quality?
Lastly, glad to hear you're ok. What exactly was involved in the accident?

Ok has anybody(with the exception of the guys that have been to the shop) Figured out what kind of power plant were using for this monster? Hint-the diehard Nissan guys probably arent going to like it, LOL.

Well, in Fast n Furious: Tokyo Drifto, they put a Nissan motor in an old Fastback...so you're gonna put a Ford 302 in it? haha
