Default Quaife QDF11 problems...

Hello fellow my350Z members I was recently putting 4.083 final drive gears on my spare Quaife Differential and had so much trouble trying to get the ring and pinion to mate up, but just wouldn't budge. I tried all shims and combinations, even shimming the Quaife diff to one side only but still the teeth on both ring and pinion would barely touch. Took down my other Diff and checked out both Part number and both checked out QDF11L I sat them on a table next to each other and this is what I found out. The base where the ring sits is not in the same place as my current diff. What should I do guys and what do you all think?

I would contact Quaife directly. Seems like recently they have been having problems like this. Whoever is putting them together is doing a shnity job and just slapping parts together. I've been in the market for this part, and recently I've been reading a few threads stating issues like the one your having. They are located in England I believe, so you need to call them at like 3am to get a hold of someone.

The one on the right is for an automatic. You need to be really careful when buying diffs and ring gears that you specify what type of transmission you have. I learned the hard way

^- yep... get a shop to create a ring spacer and pick up some longer bolts if you wanna use the auto diff or maybe quaife will be nice enough to exchange it out for you... bad qc @ quaife for sure, but they're pretty good at making things right.

Well guys got message back from Quaife in the UK and they will not help me out. Dave from Quaife in the UK said since I did not buy the Quaife unit directly from them they cannot give me an exchange for this faulty one. He also says it seems to be a QDF13 but that still does not explain why it says QDF11L on it. He says I need to contact who ever I bought it from And deal with them. But the people I bought it from are simPly vendors. WTH is up with Quaife!!!

^- hopefully the vendor you bought it from is an authorized dealer and will get involved to help you out. i would hate to think a vendor on this board wouldn't try to make it right.

You should have tried to contact the vendor you purchased it from, before contacting Quaife, IMO

I just sent this email to Quaife (copied all Quaife email address's I could find)

Good afternoon,

I am very interested in purchasing a Quaife LSD for my vehicle. I am however hearing many unfavorable stories on the Nissan 350z online forums regarding issues (more importantly unresolved issues) with the Limited Slip Differentials. This makes me very hesitant to purchase such an expensive item through your company. The word seems to be that Quaife does not honor warranty claims if the item is not directly purchased from Quaife? Is this true? It does not mention this in the FAQ. It simply states to register for the life time warranty by filling out the online form. It mentions nothing about denying a warranty claim or voiding the warranty altogether due to the fact that it was not purchased directly from Quaife, as there are many vendors selling your product. Also it seems that recently many of the LSD’s for the 350z’s are having issues with mismatching parts (LSD not fitting correctly). Such as the bolt holes being too small, and units being label incorrectly, and so on. One other question; is the warranty transferable to another person if I were to give the LSD to say a friend. Also could I have a quote for the above item shipped to the United States Orlando Florida Zip Code 32828.

If you would like I can link about 4 or so different threads regarding unresolved issues with your products.

I just want to be 100% certain that I will not encounter similar issues if I were to purchase this item.

Thank you for your assistance and I look forward to doing business with your company.

That sounds great. Best of luck with them I'm sure there will be no issue with your LSD purchase. But I got turned down by Dave@quaife.co.uk he said " anyways it's been 2 years and you want to exchange now we cannot exchange due to the fact it's been 2 years" <---- there goes my lifetime warranty. I found this out only because I decided to put back my 4.083 gears and discovered the incorrectly labeled (QDF11L) diff, and it was actually a QDF13.

Quiafe is a really sh*tty compnay. See emails below:

Why would you not warranty the item just because I live in the United States. So if I live in Ireland the warranty would be void as well??? What is the reasoning for this. It makes no sense to me that your lifetime warranty is only valid in certain geographical areas and not others............. There is no official notice of this on your website at all. THIS IS VERY MISLEADING!! That is why I'm having a hard time buying your story. If you can direct me to some sort of official literature that backs up your claim I would appreciate it.

Hello

You will need to speak to Scott at Motovicity and he will direct you to the
correct dealer of the differential. Also I can confirm that if you are in the
US then we do not cover warrantee on our differentials, but if you speak
to Scott he may be able to offer you something against our products or the
company who you buy if from may be able to help. Also regarding fitting
and finding the correct differential for your vehicle you will need to measure
your standard differential against our technical drawings on our web site to
confirm what differential is suitable for your vehicle as we manufacturer
the Manuel and also the Viscous replacement for the 350Z.

It seems as though the company you listed is a whole-seller not a retailer. I'm not looking to purchase 10's or 100's of units. I'm just looking for one. Also could you answer the questions I asked below? Thank you.

Dam!!!!!! Lifetime warranty is bull crap!!! One of the main reasons people buy their product in the first place, turns out to be a load of crap.

^- Put it up for sale, or go to a shop and get them to make a spacer for you or maybe just buy a 3.5 OR 3.7 AT pumpkin and build a spare pumpkin?

You got lots of reasonable options, but definitely not fun. Good luck though!

I had this problem earlier this year. Motovicity/Quaife were no help. And the vendor I purchased it from said they couldn't accept a return since it was over 60 days from the date of purchase.

I ended up eating the cost of the Quaife and buying another LSD in a hurry. IMHO, buying a Quaife for the 350z is a crap shoot, it might fit, it might not. If anyone ask, I'd say get a different LSD and not even take the chance.
