motor knock on my 2003, what to swap in?
I have searched and searched and havent got all the info I want yet. I am not looking for whats "cool" to swap in, Im looking for whats most practical, however adding horsepower is of coarse taken into consideration
03 DE 6spd stock motor went
how easily to vq35HRs and vq37vhrs fit? Will I be able to use my tranny with these motors? If not, will a VQ37 tranny even fit?
OPEN TO ALL IDEAS, BUT, PLEASE DONT SAY 2JZ or RB26, i know they are cool motors, but they arent an option right now

you searched and missed the 50 page almost 1000 response lsx swap thread thats stickied, as well as several build threads? my guess is you dint feel like reading through it all and wanted it handed to you. my suggestion is a stock motor because if you cant put in the effort for that you will not be able to put in the effort for a swap. its also the most practical since you just pull the old motor out and put the new one in.

YOu got alot more reading to do man. If you dont know already, you wont be willing to spend the cheese to do it.
jsut because the engine came in the same "similar" model car doesnt mean its a drop in, and perhaps thats what youre asking. So the answers are no, unless youre truly in the market for engine swaps etc ( and you may be.. dunno).. id stay very far away.
Theres plenty of people who will gladly do an HR swap, etc.. would you like your ecu to work>? Gauges? Where will you be sourcing your different body harnesses?
Dude.. it goes like this if youre not a DIY engine installer.. 3000 gets you a decent complete junkyard DE engine.. 1500-2500 gets it put in.. depending on how complete it was...well thats 5 grand.
5600 dollars gets u a built short block.. NA.. its 3000 to put in and swap stuff over.
now youre at nearly 9k.
Are there ways to avert this and save? Perhaps.. but engine swaps are not cheap.. especially if just replacing a DE itself is not cheap.
these figures that float around on the websites on how much it costs to do engines, FI etc.. they are generally ONLY the cost of retail parts.
I threw a DE rod, and went built as buying a junkyard engine for 5k was stupid imo.
But what ensued cost me over 20k in total.
Thers no real difference in an LSx swap ( in terms of investiture) other than the fact that after the swap is done you ahve a decent amount of power but have a basis for adding tons of VERY cheap power on top of it, but the engine aloen isnt super crazy... especialy when youre talking about a stock GTO motor.
In the end, if the price of the parts themselves adding up looks scary already ( before labor and peripherals) , back FAR FAR away and stay stock and easy.

If it were that easy, it would have been done a bunch of times all ready. Do some research. There are some people that have done it, but I doubt the shops will give away their "secrets" as to how they get everything functional. For one, you will need a 07-08 hood just to fit the HR.

There are a few threads on HR engines in a DE car. Is it easy, no. The 3.7 L would be even more hard because of the extra parameters controlled by the ecu plus the cost of hte entire wiring harness and ecu.
The people who have done the swaps are shops. Full functioning shops with professionals that know what they are doing. So is it able to be done, yes. Is it worth the money, no way. The stock HR isn't going to produce that much power over the DE to warrant the cost of getting it all working and paying a shop. Even moreso with the 3.7 since the parts are newer and more expensive along with needing full wiring harness and the ecu on top of the engine parts.
