Alright so i got a 04 Z enthusiast with about 89k miles. Recently just got the car dynoed and to my amazement only made 226hp/229tq on one run and second run was 244hp/232tq which is very strange seeing as my friend with a 03 track edition with 80k made 256/260 with intake and exhaust.. Now my rear tires were pretty bald with camber wear but i dont know if that had anything to do with it.

my mods are as follows..

Nismo CAI
Motordyne 5/16 spacer
Injen True Dual exhaust
Test pipes
18x10 wheels all around

Another thing is that this car does not feel sluggish whatsoever.. Ive kept up with my friend in is rb25 s13 neck and neck and he dynoed 275hp/265tq that day. Anyone have ideas what could be wrong with it? BTW here is a vid

Are you tuned? If not go get tuned and you'll prolly gain a lot of HP back. Right now you're restricting your car a lot.

 

nope not tuned at all. Most likely getting an osiris tune. I just always thought that with bolt ons i would be around 260 whp. I feel like 240 whp is even lower then stock whp lol

 

Your Stock ECU is not tuned for all the mods you have, so you're either running rich / lean. Once tuned your car is basically adjusted to the mods you have allowing the car to run as it should. I jumped from 254whp to 278whp and gained about 30 lbs of torque when I had gotten tuned.

Short Answer - Get tuned you'll be very happy. Make sure its a reputable tuner though do some research.

I used UpRev and got tuned at Hills Garage by Frank.

You need a tune. Since you've got an 04 you can go with the etune option if you want, or go get on the dyno and get dyno tuned at that shop. Either way you'll really enjoy the car after

That's where you purchase the uprev setup independently, and after loading a base map onto the ecu for your mods go datalog and record all kinds of data that the ecu monitors with the uprev software. Email that to the tuner and they adjust the tune for you then email back an update, you flash that onto the ecu and repeat until the tune is just right. Better for you IMO since you can do it at your leisure instead of working around a shops schedule, and all the '04 and newer Z's have built in wideband O2 sensors and can record pretty much everything you need to dial in the tune with uprev's software.

Your post has brought up a very important point.Basically,unless you get a
tune done(by a shop that knows its stuff)after you do these bolt-ons,
you are not getting a real return on your investment.In fact,you are hurting
your car.I'll bet your car as it sits is running lean.Very lean.Its starving
for food(fuel) to make it do its job!Find a shop.Tell e'm the results you want,
low/mid range etc.I'm confident you will be pushing 260whp if its done right.

 

^THIS. The test pipes have the biggest effect on the A/F ratio. I'm sure a good tune will yield some decent gains.

 

Not to thread hijack but I was tuned on 2 different dynos. First time I only had a turbo xs catback exhaust and dyno'd at over 270whp. Second time about 2 years later I had added Osiris, mishimoto intake, plenum spacer and berk HFCs and I dyno'd at 249. It was tuned by r/tuning and they have a great rep. My point is this - your low numbers could be due to the dyno used or it could be that Bolt-onsjust don't give that much power. I will say that my car (2005 enth) feels good and is fun to drive for an NA but it isn't what I thought I would have w my Boltons.

 

You may not have dyno'd less. It depends in what dyno your on. Like for instance a mustang is always less than a dyno jet. Usually 30 or so less.

you guys totally missed this didnt you. obviously you dynoed low because your tires have camber wear. new tires should net you ~20 whp

I take it the '03 Z doesn't have the option of getting etuned?

 

You can get a base tune from a car with similar mods, but they didn't start coming with factory wideband's until 04, so you can't accurately dial it in with datalogs.
