Default Help: Fast clutch break-in procedure!?

I replaced my clutch last night (Wed). ACT HDSS setup with resurfaced 17lb flywheel.

I am going to my first AutoX event on Saturday.

Any suggestions on bedding this new clutch in by Saturday?

I travel for my job and I may not get another chance to AutoX my car for another 6 months. At the same time, I REALLY do not want to have to change this disc again just because I was in a hurry.

500 mile break in period? Go on a long night time road trip.

Question is, how many start, stops, up and downshifts does the average car go through in 500 miles?

I'm thinking that a couple days of city traffic from hell in and around Dallas on city streets might be enough. Might be able to rack up the same amount of clutch usage in 50-100 miles.

What are your guys' thoughts?

Allot of variables to consider. However trying to take a short cut on a proper clutch break in procedure is probably not a good idea. GL

Drive as normal, hit the auto cross and just drive. Main thing you do not want to do is a drag style start. Just short shift into 2nd and you are set. Most courses are 2nd gear only, once you are in gear you clutch is no longer needed.

Cliff notes

Easy out of gate
Short shift second
Don't worry after that.

Mine, I drive like an idiot from the day I installed it, have 115k miles on it now.

Thanks Terrasmak for the input, I will do just that.

As a first time AutoX-er, one of my main goals is to drive smoothly. This will fit perfectly within my game plan.

Glad to hear the clutch works...glad it went to a good owner

BTW if you ever need upgrade, I'm currently running the ACT 6-puck/Xtreme pressure plate, and it's not bad at all, easier than my buddy's OS Giken Twin to drive

I must confess I've been driving MT cars since I began driving in '74, and never knew there was a break-in procedure for a new clutch. And, in all those years I've rarely had to replace a clutch, even though I'd consider myself a somewhat aggressive driver. Just lucky?

Think about this race cars don't drive on the street they can't drive 500 miles. It's straight to the track.
In my personal vehicles its install then I burn out to make sure they hold and that's it.

True Racing Clutches on race cars are also replaced more often than a street driven car. Some times after every session.

We're talking about a street/track clutch. So the break in procedure is going to be pretty different from a race only dedicated clutch/car.

Thanks again terrasmak for putting my mind at ease. The AutoX event went great! In the novice group I placed 4th out of 12 with only 2 other drivers being complete newbs like me. And like you said, it was strictly a 2nd gear track.

I used the 2 days before the event focusing on breaking in the clutch. I am surprised how much the clutch has changed in feel over those 2 days. At first it was extremely grabby with a really stiff pedal. By the time saturday came, the clutch felt predictable and smooth. Engagement is about 1/3 of the way from the floor and the pedal doesn't feel as stiff.

Cheers!
