Default can the vq live without the AC?

Curious to know if taking out the AC and all the plumbing out of the vq would it affect the engines performance or cooling in a negative way other than loosing the AC itself. Wondering if any tracked out Z with built motors do this where the conventional use of having an AC is no longer needed.

ac dosnt touch the engine cooling at all, thats the heater core(heat). having removed both i HIGHLY recommend you dont do this. ive regretted the AC since i did it, the Z at least dosnt get great aitflow into the window it flows around it so i can suck when its hot outside.

Do you have an HR? Because if you do removing the compressor will be more involved than a DE.

And tons of track cars remove the whole A/C system.

That being said, you're really wasting your time. The weight savings is not that much (definitely less than 50lbs, IIRC the compressor is 25 and the other components not even 10lbs), and the compressor has a clutched pulley... the parasitic loss is nearly nothing.

unless you remove the entire system like i did then its about 100 lbs but i really really do not recommend it.

ive been driving around in the californi sun for about two summers without ac so i wouldnt mind removing it. only thing i do use is the heater in the winter.

any other reasons why you wouldn't remove it other than comfort

nope but as resmarted said if not removing the entire system your not cutting a ton of weight. the heater core/blower motor/evaporator assembly behind the dash is where a ton of weight comes from like 50-60 lbs iirc and thats heating system too which requires modifications to work correctly but ac would be just fine.

not really the only extra thing you will remove is the evaporator, most of the weight is coming from all the electronics and plastic, the box is friggin huge literally like 3/4 the space behind the dash. out of 50-60 lbs removing the evaporator would only save you another 6-8 lbs and you might not be able to put it back togeather after attempting it.

you have evaporator under the dash in the box, compressor, lines, condensor by the radiator. the heat and ac use the same tubes and air box to move air around and same blower motor the two elements are seperated by flaps(heater core other element in the dash). heater uses engine coolant, ac system uses freon. completely different systems that use some of the same parts, those same parts is where most of the weight comes from.

i guess a better question would be does the dash rely on any of the plastic ac components to fit properly?

a couple of the vents have nuts that run through them nothing major though. mainly you loose heat also if you remove it. and that means you need to tie the heater core outlet and inlet togeather on the rear of the engine.
