Engine swap questions
Ok I am doing a DE Rev up to HR swap and before anyone flames me for the swap it will be easy and cause no headaches. Z fever in Tampa,FL can make a HR engine run on an older Z by doing a little harness work. The engine will be built on the side before I swap it. It will be a twin turbo build if anyone wanted to know. I just need to know if I need to get the core support and was their any change to the AC lines and if i could keep any of my old stuff??probably not buy why not ask. I do plan on buying all new accessories for the most part since I will have motor out of the car. Other then that please tell me what I may or may not need. I also got the transmission so no worries.
Would be too much headache and money for the minimal benefits of the swap itself.
Spend the money on boosting the engine you have now while building the top end of the block.

The motor will be built on the side so I won't be throwing all my money all at once. Maby a 2-5 month build or less then I'll drop it in. The motor will be fully built if I was doing just the regular motor on a na build that would be stupid believe me I know. I am building a motor on the side so that I can still daily my Z. I'll just Go on vacation for a week from work when I'm ready to drop it in. And since I can drop an hr motor in my Z and have seen it done I might as well. And it won't be to expensive. I'm doing most of the work. It's just the harness from Z fever and dropping the motor in at my fiends shop. I did my research just want to make sure I am not missing anything. I'll be selling my old motor when I'm done 55k on it now
. And I will never sell my Z. To much hard-work to just toss it. Getting a full nismo v3 body painted in a month. Believe me she is a keeper.

Not only will you need the HR core support, you'll also need a steering rack out of an HR as the starter is on the opposite side from a DE/rev-up. Get a radiator and overflow bottle while you're at it, and buy a front clip to make sure. After doing a rev-up to HR swap for Nissan Sport Magazine a few years ago, I can say with assurance that you'll need way more than "a little work" on the main harness. The electronic architecture is quite different between the two engines/ECMs and even with an expert working on modifying the harnesses, be ready for CELs all the time. Not a big problem for a racecar, but a ***** to deal with on your street ride!
Interesting that so many Z33 noobies want to pursue this swap. The OP will probably end up slinking off after learning too late he should have listened to the advise given here. As others have said, the gains are negligible and you end up with a street car that's been hacked up.

+1
A few people have done it but most have considered this swap not worth the time/money.

Omg guys please read lol. I am building the motor Outside my car. Z fever is doing the harness for my Z. All electronics will function. I have seen it done in person. I'm just asking if the core support or anything else besides accessories/transmission will need to swapped out the engine bay wise. I'm doing most of the work myself so no labor it's on me. I have a video so you guys can see what I am talking about Z fever is good they do good work. If a guy sends his GTR all the way from New York to Florida to have Z Fever work on it it should mean something.
And guys I'm not doing the swap for kicks and giggles. The motor will be built for FI twin turbo. If it was NA then yeah I'm a dumb ***. Buying a spare motor so I can build it on the side then I'll drop it when ready. I'm in college and still want to drive the Z don't want it sitting for months.
Why not just twin turbo the de/revup. U can make similar power u don't need duel intakes to twin turbo an engine. Everyone is telling u its not simple so idk why u assume it is. U asked what u needed dkmura said u need an entire front clip. Idk if that's true but seems like a lot more work then its worth
I can get a motor for the low. I got a couple of salvaged 350z where the rear end was knocked out. Motors are fine. Not worried about cost really because it will be built outside of the car so I am in noooooo rush to get it done but it will be in a 2-5 month span max. I won't do an LS swap because I want to stay true to the Nissan brand.
Here is the video as promised. And I will be taking my time on the build no hack job. I know the whole controversy about the de to hr swap. It can be done and my Z will be a keeper I don't mind spending on it. My other daily will be a 370z at some point.
