Default Auto VLSD vs. 6 speed VLSD question

Ok, I just picked up a VLSD, but the guy was unsure of whether it came from a 6 speed or an auto chassis. It's the complete pumpkin. I've searched and searched and can't seem to find an answer, is there any way to tell which chassis it came from so I know if it's a 3.5 or a 3.3? I saw a thread about a part number on one of the gears but I can't seem to find any solid info on what the part numbers are or how to identify the diff. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

you can figure it out by spinning the input pinion, and seeing the corresponding # of turns at the output shaft. you'll need to mark both ends for accuracy.

only way I can think of is open it up. the 3.3 ring gear is supposed to be a lot thicker than the 3.5 by how much, not exactly sure.

There are pics of both of the opened up side by side, easy to tell the difference

See, I did see a pic of the side by side comparison, but one was an open diff and one was a VLSD so I wasn't sure if the differential itself, open vs VLSD took different gears. I suppose I could make the marks and measure the turns? That would probably be the easiest way if the only other way was to crack it open to look at the ring gear.

Is this the pic you're referring to?

Actually, nevermind guys, I went ahead and made my marks and spun the input shaft and it took just over 3.5 turns (which 3.538 is the actual final drive which makes sense for the extra little past the half turn) to give the output shafts a full rotation so I know for sure it has 3.5 gears. Thanks for the quick responses! I appreciate the help!
