Clutch help
So I bought a used 350 and it needs a new clutch. I have a personal mechanic looking at it, and I was wondering what I should get. I plan on adding a spacer and an intake, and probably a tune evantually. It already has an exhaust, and I was wondering if I need a stage 2 clutch ? Also is a new flywheel needed ? There is a cheap exedy oem replacement but I'm not sure if this is the right route. Help is appreciated
Unless you go bonkers with bolt ons or add forced induction stock replacement is fine. It seems many people fear the dual mass flywheel and convert to the lightweight aftermarket but unless you've really geeked it up it can be surfaced and reused.
I agree with montztr. An OEM clutch assembly is very adequate for the add-ons you list in your message.
Also... It isn’t unusual for a 350z owner to be disappointed changing to alightweight aftermarket setup.

Super lightweight, single mass flywheels are OK if you are mostly doing a minimum of street driving and don't have to contend with stop&go traffic on a regular basis. Problem is that lightweight flywheels don't have the mass (and therefore cannot generate the inertia to keep moving on their own) resulting in not-so-smooth engagement and steady state cruising unless driven very hard all the time.
Mfgrs build in heavier flywheels to keep the car smooth on the streets and highways, where they are used most.
On the clutch assembly itself, it ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR INTENDED USE and what other mods you intend to put in/on. Clutches are spec'd (typically) on the their torque handling. If your driving includes track events, then that might warrant a Stage 2 or better clutch but more attention needs to be paid to the material used for the clutch disc and of course, the spring rates of the pressure place.
If you plan to add FI or NO2 then maybe that also warrants a Stage 2+ and above. But for 95% of most drivers' needs AND occasional hard runs in the hills/canyons/etc. a stock or HD clutch is MORE than adequate.

Hi guys and girls,
I just installed a new xtd clutch and flywheel on my 350z (2004) and when I went on a test drive I can hear this rattling sound before and during I engage the clutch in first and second gear.
I hope you can help me figuring out what this could be.

Does the clutch feel as though it's operating normally?
The flywheel chatter can be annoying at idle, but I find the stock setup completely inadequate. On my stock 2007 clutch my pedal kept getting stuck to the floor on my first track day session. Prior to that I had a 2004 Z, and that clutch stuck to the floor from a little aggressive street driving. I have had no issues on my '07 since upgrading to the JWT clutch & flywheel, plus master and slave.

I agree with the others, Exedy OEM replacement is fine and recommended unless you are heavily modding. I went with it last year and have no complaints. $222 on Amazon.
