Default Dyno results, your thoughts?

Car just turned 100k so I decided to take it to the dyno for a base run. It's a 2006 (track model) Rev up with TB spacer, CAI, test pipes, hr y pipe and DC sports muffler. (It's only the muffler as I got a muffler leak at the last autocross and -on a budget- I decided to have a friend weld in an aftermarket muffler instead of replacing the cat back)

Tuner said it was a healthy motor at 100k miles, specially since it doesn't burn a drop of oil and I autox frequently. He said he dynoed a G35 with less mileage that made 195 rwhp

I feel this is a little lower than I expected but I'm not altogether dissapointed.

228hp @ 7080 RPM, 207 ft lb @ 2700 RPM, untuned. Your thoughts?

Which dyno is this? If you tuned for these mods, my money would be you'd make around 255~whp on a dynojet.

What gear was the dyno done in? Have you been to a 1/4 mile track before? Trap speeds give somewhat of an indication of power.

Yes, it's a dynojet.

An no I haven't been to a drag strip. And i believe it was done in 4th gear.

Got it done at Project Import in Orange, CA.

You might make a bit more going back to factory revup air box with a K&N filter, since the '06 box has an integrated velocity stack in it. A tune would help, but this seems to be a low reading dyno. Stock non-revup DE's generally make 225 or so whp on a dynojet, so if a G made 195, then I'd think that's the case.

Actually, if it's understating power by roughly 30whp, you might make 260 or so on another dyno

Your "sweet spot" for the dyno should have been done in 5th gear as the gear ratio is 1:1 and is optimal for measuring your power output on the dyno.

You have more mods than I did when I first got my 03 Touring. I don't remember the kind of dyno, but I got 255 whp and almost the same amount of torque. Temps were below freezing outside, too. I had about 10k miles on my Z.

That was my first setup. OEM box with k&n filter. I will visit another dyno and bring the stock box with me and make sure its done in 5th gear.

I will say that the 3" CAI really freed up the engine in the 5-7k rpm range and I felt that immediately. Engine sounds amazing too. The dyno curve kinda proves that it is breathing well all the way up to redline. I do like the way the power curve looks.

Not to derail, but can anyone link me to the dyno report thread?

I've been googling for like 3 days. I just saw it last week too.

The thread where everyone reports in their set up and the dump numbers they made.

I didn't realize that's a 3" - I thought it was an AEM, which is 2.75, I believe? But you can free up some more power up top with a 3" MAF housing, and velocity stack. And yeah, that's a good looking curve, that's what I'm going for on my build.

You would need a retune if upgrading the MAF section.

Last edited by jellofuel; Aug 28, 2017 at 03:57 AM. Reason: Changing MAF section requires tune.

That does not look like a dynojet dyno to me...based on the dyno sheet...

I used to go to Project Import a long time ago, and last time I was there they definitely did not have a dynojet-type dyno...
