Default MTEC Shifter Spring

Just wanted to put some objective data out there for anyone considering the MTEC shifter springs for their Z/G.

Please note I installed these springs after also installing an IRP short shifter that relocated the shifter about 5 inches rearward. I fabricated a replacement shift rod out of an aluminum threaded tube to accommodate the rearward relocation. With the increased length of the shifter, the return to center while in neutral was noticeably weak. I installed the MTEC springs bilaterally and measured the before and after force required to move the shifter.

The force required to move shifter towards driver increased by approximately 25-30%
The force required to move the shifter towards the passenger increased by approximately 20%
(measured with a cheap spring force gauge, so please take these percentages as approximations)

Cheers

Ended up moving it for ergonomics. I got a race seat that's mounted as far back as possible and almost needed to bend forward to get it into 5th gear (with my arm fully extended)! The IRP shifter is pretty slick. The shifts are super solid and crazy short! I really like how little my hand needs to move from the steering wheel to reach the shifter now.

Even tho I mounted it rearward, someone could definitely mount it in the original shifter position.
