Default Tranny options

Hey all.

I have a vq35de with a automatic cvt from a 2004 awd murano.

I want to use the engine for a project and get a manual transmission (4,5 or 6 spd)

what options do I have in choices of transmission.
also, should I expect issues with this? (Trans depending)

im not greatly worried about engine lights or codes

Welcome- you don't mention what kind of project you're working on, and without that info, there's no way to provide much advice. You do realize there are significant differences between a transverse VQ35DE (like the Murano) and the longitudinal mounted blocks in the Z or G? As for transmission options, anything is possible if you can fabricate a custom mount, but the cost of hiring this out is considerable.

I don't see any operational difference between the two engines. The engine and other mounts will have to be custom fabricated and the engine will not be mounted sideways like in the awd transaxle Murano but longitudnial with a rwd transmission.

What the project is will have to remain a secret for now until I can verify that mechanically this is viable.

Price is the largest factor in all of this and getting a trans that actually fits the engine is "well dooh" essential.

the Project so far has cost me $300

Bolt pattern for the tranny and starter will be the first place to check. Take a closer look at the header bolt pattern to see if a RWD header will fit onto a FWD head.

I haven't put the car on a lift yet so I do not know how the bolt pattern is.

Are you saying that the VQ35DE in awd murano is not the same engine as (f.ex) rwd z350?

One area i remember being different between the rwd and transverse engine is oil filter mounting. Upper oil pan would have to be changed on a transverse engine to be used as a rwd car.

Would that apply to all rwd manual trannys ?

What options are there for manuals that might fit?
i've heard cd009 ... what other options should i concider ... older trannys???

If price is the biggest factor in building your project, get ready to be disappointed. The transverse VQ and tranny are different enough that a straight through bolt-in solution is not available to my knowledge. Yes, you can have custom adaptors fabricated, but that costs time, skill and money..

So I need to research how they are different and find out if possible create a workaround those issues if possible.

I am not very good at identifying from pictures wich VQ is from a transverse or a rwd (assuming same for manual and automatic). Are there any obvious signs wich is wich?

Full steam ahead!

In my heaf I was limited by using only Nissn trannys for simplification.

After doing some research it is true about the bolt pattern and other things not being the same from one engine to the other.

So adaptor plate is probably gonna be the way to go for me and likely finding a Beemer tranny. Not sure tho.

However this isn't some simple task for a 1yo noob mechanic but going to press on.

THIS IS GOING TO BE AN 2006 YARIS WITH VQ35DE MANUAL RWD CONVERTION.

Still a concept wich is mutating every moment I open my mouth to someone about it.

Hoo boy- not a big secret to reveal what you have in mind, but this is NOT a project a "1yo noob mechanic" can realistically hope to finish. Sorry to rain on your parade, but this idea will be a deep, dark hole to throw time, money and your hopes into. Mutation is fine to dream about, but that's about it...

I do have a group of guys who have years of experiance at my disposal and all of the equipment at hand.

I do understand that this is a big task and for now I'm gathering knowledge about how to do things ... before actually starting ... and do really appreciate all hints/tips and other things you guys can dish out ^^
