Hoping you guys can help identify which generation this vq35 shortblock. Is it a DE, HR, etc?

long story short, my machinist built this engine years ago for a previous customer who is ended up getting rid of the shell. Many years later, he doesn’t know what year 350/G it came out of.

forged rods, forged pistons, king or acl bearings which aren’t shown.

hoping you guys can see what features designate this as a certain year/vq model.

im more than willing to pull measurements from certain features so just let me know. There is also a “serial number” plate which I read doesn’t give much info if you’re not working for Nissan/infiniti.

just trying to help this guy out as it’s taking up space.

Its a DE … the knock sensor location is a dead give-away

The HR has dual knock sensors while the DE only has one…

You could look at the main caps too

 

Looks like it's had the HR gasket mod too?

 

I’ll ask the machinist about the HR head gasket mod and see if it rings a bell.
