Engine Stalls When Stopped Randomly
Alright sorry in advance for a long explanation for a short problem…
Short explanation:
Problem: car stalls when parked occasionally only when engine is warm and a few dash lights come on, being the CEL and slip lights I believe.
details about car: 2004 auto 350z with pop charger air filter and oil catch can
Things I have done that only temporarily work (about 100-500 miles): cleaned maf sensor, throttle body, air filter, and intake tube; reset the ecu, idle relearn, accelerator pedal and throttle position relearn.
Detailed explanation:
I have a 2004 350z with an automatic trans that has been occasionally stalling when stopped like at a stop light or when parked. All the engine does is turn off. No warning no lights beforehand or anything it just goes to 0 rpm and a few dash lights come on, being the CEL and slip lights I believe and I have to turn it off wait for the fuel pump to turn off then start it again and it’s fine. This happens once every few drives. The most recent time was this morning when I parked in my driveway after going to the gym and when I put it in park and was about to turn it off, it just turned off on its own. This happened in the past before and after winter a few times but those times the idle would drop dangerously low for a few seconds like 200 rpm then stall out and this was when parked also. I performed an ecu reset and that fixed it the first time. The second time I did an ecu reset, idle relearn, throttle position relearn, accelerator pedal calibration too (basically all the pedal dances). I also took off my air intake and throttle body, cleaned the throttle body, intake tube, air filter, and maf sensor then put a new throttle body gasket on.
It is worth noting that I have a pop charger air filter on the car and it had been on since I bought it and an oil catch can I installed myself.
Thank you!

No I haven’t yet. There’s no SES light that stays on. I was reading up on this and found it may be the camshaft or crankshaft position sensors. I actually am having it inspected soon and may have the codes checked then as there can be ones stored but no light on right?
this happens w the pop charger or any open filter element on this car, has been the case for 15 years plus.
Extremely well know and common.
clutch in, pulling up to a stop light, engine just quietly kills out , starts right back up? Yep.
