03 350Z DE Ignition cylinder only vs ECU+BCM set (NATS key issue)
Hello,
I am driving a 2003 Nissan 350Z DE North American model in South Korea.
There is very little information available about this car in South Korea,
so I am asking for help because I want to restore the car back to its original OEM condition.
I would really appreciate your advice.
The previous owner did a very poor job with modifications,
and the current situation is as follows:
1. The ignition was modified to a toggle switch.
2. Out of the original smart key and two physical keys,
one physical key is zip-tied to the NATS antenna ring.
3. The original ignition cylinder is damaged and unusable.
The car starts via the toggle ignition wiring.
The problem is this:
I want to remove the toggle switch,
restore the ignition wiring back to OEM,
and use the key ignition again.
My plan was to purchase a used ignition cylinder + used physical key + used smart key +used door lock set,
replace only the ignition cylinder,
and swap the transponder chip from the original key head into the new key.
However, some people told me that,
to avoid mental stress and headaches,
I must replace a matched ECU + BCM set.
(I am not exactly sure under what conditions this becomes necessary.)
They said they personally spent over $300 on locksmith services alone,
while not having a spare or matched ECU/BCM set.
Since Nissan has completely withdrawn from South Korea,
there is no official Nissan service center here.
Because of this, I would need to source parts myself through eBay.
This costs a lot of time and money,
and honestly it has become very stressful,
so I came here to ask for help.
